A comment I made in this post:

"Stop catering to MySpace and Facebook. You have a core group of customers, some of whom have been around for close to a decade. If you are that desperate to play nice-nice with the MySpace and Facebook generation, create a new and seperate (and optional!) offshoot of lj and call it "LJ Networking". THERE. Regardless of what they're trying to do (I'm not totally convinced that LJ is trying to become Facebook), creating a separate social network would seem to be an even dumber idea, because why would anyone join a new, empty, social network?

are you a part of facebook?

did you hear that LJ wanted to make TABS for the "bio" (ie just link info on facebok). The collapsible sections? that is JUST like facebook!

Next it will be apps!

I am on facebook.

Eh, but just because one design element is on facebook, does not mean that LJ is emulating facebook per se, IMHO. It may be just modern design trends, or whatever people think is good design these days.

Anyway, if anything, I wish LJ would emulate wordpress.

there is a petition I saw. . .but not many people had signed it, I don't think more than 1000.

I just don't understand how so many people can say they DON'T like it, but LJ says that they are going to keep it. I did read one ljdesign post where they said, "The current profile page does not scale well, and has not been significantly upgraded for years."

I don't get it. maybe it's cause I am not in design stuff, but what does "scale well" mean?

(that is from here http://community.livejournal.com/lj_design/17908.html)

I would ALSO like to mention when giving their reasons they EDITED a post, did NOT post a new one. . .

i believe in this case "scale well" refers to different display sizes. you want a page to scale well in order to have it read well on an iPhone or netbook as well as it reads on a 15 inch monitor or a 24 inch monitor. that's a very good business reason for the redesign.

Hmm. Surely they could have come up with a way to make the current profiles scale well without such a drastic redesign?

I have to say, I don't quite get all the fuss about the new page. On the one hand, I don't find it all that bad. Different, yes, but nothing I couldn't get used to. On the other hand, I didn't think the old one had any fatal flaws either, so I don't understand the zeal to create a new one and force it on the community. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

If you like it, (or simply don't care) that's fine, but it's turned more into the fact that they don't listen to the wants and desires of their paying customers. They received mostly negative feedback on the beta, it's not complete, yet they still made it live and it is the ONLY one you are allowed to use. That's bs :/

I posted this in news and lj_design. They said they wanted feedback, and saying it's ugly (even though it is) isn't feedback ( ... )
