Nov 30, 2007 17:15

We've been reading your comments and want to talk about some of the questions that have come up the most often. These are just the top things that we want to clarify and we'll update in more detail again next week if there's more that needs to be addressed ( Read more... )

:/ Still not so happy.

Also, what about definitive policy so we know exactly what constitutes as things? I mean, we're asking a lot, I know, we haven't gotten any decent policy in awhile, but my definition of things probably differs a great deal from Six Apart's.

Most communities with fanfiction, etc. that are 'mature' or 'adult' insist on them being labelled and LJ-cut, anyway. I don't get what this system is meant to achieve other than being the first step towards Boldthrough II.

I think it just means that moderators of these 'mature content' communities no longer need to manually verify the age of users. For community mods dealing with thousands of users, I imagine that's a blessed relief. :D

Since this thread still hasn't been addressed:

How do we appeal the decisions made by the APT?

EDIT: Also, will we by notified by email if the APT changes our entry to 'explicit content'?

Decisions to administratively create an Explicit setting can be appealed by opening an Abuse Report. The content will be reviewed by new eyes.

There isn't a system to notify users that an individual entry has been set, but if a journal or community is set the journal owner or community maintainer will be contacted at their registered email account.

Thanks for answering.

So filing an Abuse Report is the appeals process, but if we aren't notified then how are we supposed to appeal it? I don't want to be scrolling through my entries months later and finally notice that an entry has been flagged.

Because a link to online safety tips = requiring the supervision of parents.

I don't think there is anything LJ can do to *require* parental supervision. They can't crawl out of the computer into the kid's bedroom and point a gun at the parent's head. That's non-IT, something completely out of their control. I think they are trying to do the best they can within the mechanisms they have.

Parents still have responsibility. I know thats the reason, for us, that all computers are in one room, and we can all see what everyone else is doing. And all three of us (me, my wife, *and* my 13yo daughter) are all on LJ.

But then again asking parents to be responsible is almost unheard of today. Sadly I think you are an exception.

Well, most parents I know are responsible. I think the media just inflates the reports of non-responsible parents. They also grossly inflate the reports of predators as well.... and of course, we *all* believe the media.

I'm still waiting to hear what happened to the single policy document on appropriate and inappropriate content you promised us over three months ago. Especially since it just might be relevant to this system.

Apparently there's a meeting about that today in San Francisco.

Which means they'll make that document public in about 2 years. ;)

Let's go get one of those calendars with chocolate in them, then.

There will be something on it a lot quicker than that. By next week you will see some information on it.
