catching up

So finally I spent how many hours watching all of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and except for the unfortunate side effect of wanting to punch Sofia Vergara for that incessant commercial, it's so cute and well-done. I was pondering fic and then I realized I had put it into the same slightly awkward box in my brain I have for RPF, so WELL PLAYED SHOW. ( Read more... )

hen I realized I had put it into the same slightly awkward box in my brain I have for RPF, so WELL PLAYED SHOW.

Haha, you're not the only one. The whole context everything is put into, with all of the story happening in the middle of Lizzie and Charlotte trying to get careers in communications started and ending up in completely different areas than they thought they would and a whole bunch of other stuff, I KNOW that world, I'm in that world, Lizzie's totally a real person, right? So when some of the creator stuff goes around tumblr I'm like NOPE NOPE DON'T WANT TO SEE IT YOU PEOPLE GET OUT OF THIS AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL DOCUMENTARY THING I'M WATCHNIG

As for TVD, the most recent ep was actually the first one in a while I didn't get super bored with? Because everything has been LET'S FAIL AT DAGGERING AN ORIGINAL for every episode for the past million years, and this one had that too, but... it ended with something that looks like they might be moving forward from that, and a lot of their other drama? I'm cautiously hopeful.

yes, totally, LBD, stop mixing your "writing" and "acting" into MY REAL LIFE, actual creator people! LOL

ah, good, then I'll have to watch the tvd EP. MOVE ON. and I LIKE the Originals, and I actually have some hope for their show, but it's so ridiculous having them around Mystic Falls and the constant attempts to get rid of them.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries will TAKE OVER THE WORLD, MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA... (I quite like it myself.)

... planting the mystery that Harold was involved with Ordos. MIND BLOWN. I'd always figured the hard drive had to have some connection with the Machine given Alicia's involvement, but not Harold directly.

IMO there still isn't confirmation that it was Finch's direct involvement. Just that Zeus wanted Stanton to think it was. Although I'd be okay if Finch actually was directly involved in some way... maybe he started having doubts about keeping the Machine restricted to just the US government, for example, and chose to let another government have a modified version? IDK, but it's certainly an interesting line of speculation. FIVE MONTHS! (In show timeline, anyway.)

Oh! About Stanton: if you look closely at that last bit of Machine POV, there are a few seconds missing between Stanton getting in the car and the explosion. Sneaky way of the writers leaving themselves an option for later, maybe.

I WOULD BE OKAY WITH THAT (except for the part about how I'm unable to tell fiction from reality, with that show, but it's pretty awesome ( ... )

(and wow I wrote Kara and it makes me think of Kara Thrace even now and I CAN'T DO IT)

This may be why I keep calling her Cara, despite having checked and checked and checked that it starts with a K. My brain just can't conceive of another Kara with a K who isn't Starbuck.

(well, and I also like Cara Stanton, it just looks better. idek why)

I was a bit irritated by that scene in the hallway--it honestly felt like it didn't need to be there. I guess if we put it in the context of "Carter and Fusco just climbed 21 floors worth of stairs..." it helps a little, but.

(I also might have been a little annoyed that Carter didn't even get a chance to look at the mechanism and go "you're right, I can't do anything with this.")

I think they needed something - and I can get some of Carter's desperation - she did just put her ass on the line for him, and now he's gonna blow up. but it also felt a little... pandering? OTT? dunno.

But the bomb thing didn't bug me, since her expertise isn't explosives. Like, if she'd been wth the bomb squad or something like that, then sure. But she's a street/homicide cop and she was an interrogator in the army. Between her and Reese, he should have more bomb training as a former Delta Force.

Nikita is interesting. I'll confess this is the first time I've heard of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. One of my other lj friends is upset about the protagonist-centered morality on The Vampire Diaries recently.

Have you worked on that "too late" Sam AU lately?

the protagonist-centered morality
This is exactly the phrase I was looking for. It's becoming almost unbearable and makes me hate almost all the characters. From all the people that have to die just so Elena would feel better to Bonnie whining about a party being cancelled so noone dies during it like it happens every time - the way thy treat everyone outside their intermediate circle as completely expendable is repulsive. This kind of shit made me quit Supernatural and TVD is becoming even worse then that.

I got the term from TV Tropes Wiki.

Yeah, that bugged me about Supernatural too in later seasons, although it was instead the senseless deaths of Ellen and Jo that made me quit.

I just started to hate the Winchesters and want them to die. So many lives would be saved if they'd just died. I just couldn't get over it. I'm getting to the same place with TVD.

It's really easy to forget that LBD is scripted - it just mimics the real vlogging/social media stuff so well and makes caring for the characters so easy ( ... )

I didn't mind the Save Elena For ALL quite so much when she was human and positioned as the key to everything ever, because that was irritating but at least there was some sort of reasoning, but now that she's a regular fledgling vampire, WHATEVER, show - I'm expected to be okay with Damon slaughtering a dozen people just so Elena can be human again? SHE'S NOT THAT SPECIAL and it makes me mad that the show is making me hate Elena, because I can't stand the whole sirebond thing either, which is THE WORST. Not only is it squicky, which is bad enough, but it's also a narrative cop-out, get-out-of-jail-free card, besides, which is gonna act like a reset as soon as she's human again. FEH ( ... )

I can't stop feeling like everyone would be so much better off if Elena would just really die. So many lives would be saved. Everyone could move on. This is what I felt about Sword of Truth books and Supernatural and I hate quit both so it's not a good sign. Especially that there is less and less characters I actually care about.

Root fangirls Machine so hard I can't believe she would let any harm to come to it. Humans - sure, but not Machine.
