When I think Jamaica and the 1950s, I think Ian Fleming and James Bond books. Fleming loved Jamaica and set a bunch of the Bond books and stories there like Dr. No, Live and Let Die, Octopussy (a short story), and The Man with the Golden Gun. Leaving aside the spy stuff, one of the pleasures of the Bond books is how they read like travel literature for rich white (British) men who like only the best.

For your question, I think you need to specify whether the young people are white or black and their socio-economic status because it will make a difference as to whether they are meeting in a cafe or whether they are meeting at the country club.

Can we ban zhaoh123 from the group, please? I reported him as a spammer to LJ some time ago, and nothing has happened.

Thanks.

From the User Info:

CONTACTING THE MODS

kutsuwamushi is the primary maintainer. She's online often and can be contacted by commenting on this post. If the problem is urgent, such as someone posting personal information or porn spam, you can also contact these people:

callie_chan (the creator of the community) - contact on AIM as Fyreflyzblaze
sudaki - contact by email at tinfish at punkass dot com
shoiryu - contact by email at darkharmony at gmail dot com

----

Contacting them as they indicate with your request will probably be more effective than a comment buried in someone else's post that the mods may not read. :)

I asked my co-worker tonight about your question. She's Jamaican, but too young to have been around in the nightclubs in the 50s. Regardless, she grew up with Jamaican people of that time so I thought it was worth a try.

According to her, the waitress would call him "Sir", without any of "da young people" slang, as my co-worker put it.
