Subway travel in NYC

Jul 10, 2006 07:36

I'm writing a book about someone who goes to NYU, so if you live in NYC help a gal out here.

How long does it take for someone to travel on the subway from near NYU to another borough? Say Queens or Brooklyn?

Thanks!

usa: new york: new york city, usa: public transportation

It depends on where in Queens or Brooklyn you want to go.

Brooklyn would be closer than Queens. I would say Brooklyn on the express would be 15-20 minutes (assuming first stop in Brooklyn). Queens would be likely 30 minutes. To get a more accurate time you really need to specify a location and then check what the subway service is like. If it is on an express line then it should be reasonable (<30 minutes), it is in a local line or a solid walk from a subway stop, you are looking at much longer commute.

We live in Brooklyn and use 1 hour to get to and from Manhattan as a rule of thumb *but* it depends on where in Brooklyn and Queens you want to go. Both of these boroughs are fairly large.

Brooklyn and Queens are both huge, so travel times vary. From where I live in Brooklyn the train ride to the NYU area is 15 minutes, give or take.

From painful personal experience. These are door to door times, no walking...

Astoria to 8th St via the N/W: 45-50 minutes. It really depends on where from. I live further away in Astoria now, and if I took the R it might take closer to an hour to the 8th St stop.

Brooklyn would be much quicker--little under 30 minutes train travel from Park Slope.

Also, is this an undergrad? I think they are required to live on campus for at least freshman year there.

Living on campus isn't a requirement. Not when I went to NYU at least.

ok. I thought that it was for out of staters, at least. I wanna say that's what was in the papers/school and such after the Bobst suicids. I went to New School, so I'm not really sure.
