Anyone have any idea how to get Polytonic Greek working on MS Word for the Mac? I have the Apple Polytonic Greek support installed, and it works like a dream. On literally everything but Word that is. It works perfectly on the freebie Apple word processor, but sadly that tends to bugger up my footnotes (of which there are many). I've never used Word for Mac (or either individually to a great extent), but you might want to check the font. One of the biggest problems I had with typing in other writing systems on my PC was that I wasn't using a Unicode font.

I think the default for MS apps is Times New Roman, which might not have great Greek support? Now that I'm looking at it, I might be very wrong, but it might be worth a shot.

You're right, Times New Roman does not have Polytonic Greek support. In fact, it's likely that most of the fonts you have don't. For one that does, check out SIL's Galatia and Gentium fonts (I prefer the latter).

Also, Microsoft Office X has no Unicode support whatsoever. You'll get MacRoman, and not even Windows Latin-1. If that's the version you have, then you'll ether need to try a non-Unicode font (Like SIL's older non-Unicode version of Galatia) or upgrade to Office 2004.

Good luck. :)

thanks! I'll give that a try. Luckily it is just a few quotes I want to enter, but on the other hand I want to do them properly.

Alternatively, you can find plenty of Polytonic Greek fonts in Unicode here.

There's nothing wrong with them, it's just when i transfer my files over from ms word the footnotes go all wrong. And there are large numbers of footnotes and i don't want to do them again
