Dear Yuletide Writer 2016

Oct 09, 2016 21:11

Dear Fellow Yuletider,

First of all, the basics.

Likes: Angst, bittersweet endings, characters in peril, close escapes, co-dependence, dramatic rescues, dubcon, forbidden relationships, hurt/comfort, seduction, student/mentor, banter, crackfic, humor, mutual pining, romance, slow burn relationships, snark, thick sexual tension.

Dislikes: A/B/O dynamics, AUs, breaking up canon couples just for the sake of it, character bashing, gender swap, gore, m/m slash, pwp, second person pov, soul marks. Please no issuefic and no head canons that massively conflict with established canon.

Types of Fic I Enjoy: Day in the life, curtain fic, Christmas fic, fluff, wedding fic, baby fic, kid fic, character studies, missing scenes, pre and post canon, canon divergence, slow burn romances.

Now onto fandom specifics.

Fandom 1:Agent Pendergast Series-Preston and Child

Characters: Aloysius Pendergast, Antoine Enoch Leng Pendergast, Diogenes Pendergast, Constance Greene

What I Love About This Series: Murder, mystery, mayhem, and the macabre- what's not to love?

My Favorite Character:Constance Greene. Long lived, enimagtic, pragmatic, sharp tongued, occasionally homicidal, definately a little crazy Constance Greene. Her continuing storyline is nuts...and I love every part of it.

My OTP: Aloysius Pendergast/Constance Greene

Why They're My OTP: Constance is extremely important to Pendergast, to the point where he will kill in her defense, help her plot against authorities to keep her child safe, and do whatever else it takes to keep her safe. Pendergast is the world to Constance. Killing others and risking her own life on his behalf is nothing to her if that means keeping him safe. They're a beautiful, awkward, co-dependent mess that hits a lot of my likes listed above.

Also Shipped:Diogenes Pendergast/Constance Greene

Ship Prompts:
1) In Blue Labyrinth Constance calls Pendergast the other half of her heart. In Crimson Shore Pendergast tells Constance that he has more affection for her than any other living soul. So what's the problem here and how do they eventually get past that?
2) Diogenes cheated death. Now he's back and desirious of a little...chat...with Constance about being shoved into a volcano.(Not to mention their son and other various unresolved issues between them) The darker the better on this one.

Gen Prompt: Constance reflects on her twisted history with those bearing the last name of Pendergast.

Please Note: No Vincent D'Agosta, please. In any form.

Incoming Canon Alert: The 16th(!) novel in the Pendergast series will be released on October 18th. I will update this section of my letter with my thoughts and feelings about the book as soon as I finish it. (Probably around the 20th) If the book doesn't affect your story, great! If it does, feel free to call it canon divergence and carry on.

Fandom #2: The Big O

Characters: R. Dorothy Wayneright, Roger Smith, Jason Beck, Angel

What I Love About This Series: I love the juxtaposition of film noir and giant robots that makes The Big O seem like someone's vision of a retro inspired future gone horribly, horribly wrong. (In all of the best ways) I love its wit, the way it rewards paying attention, and its willingness to go completely crazy at a moment's notice.

My Favorite Character: R. Dorothy Wayneright. The thing I love most about Dorothy is her contradictory and snarky nature. As an android, she thinks herself superior to the silly humans; at other times, she tries her best to fit in with them. She can "pass" as a human but when annoyed she stresses her robotic qualities. I also love that Dorothy plays the other, the character who comments on human nature (mostly) without consequence.

My OTP: Roger Smith/R. Dorothy Wayneright.

Why They Are My OTP: Roger and Dorothy tick off many of my likes mentioned above. Those two are willing to go to great lengths for each other. They have great banter...and go from humor to heartbreak in about 60 seconds. I do believe Dorothy is capable of romantic love and being in love with Roger, in her own way. Likewise, I believe Roger is in love with Dorothy but is too hung up on various issues to admit it to himself.

Ship Prompt: After the second reset, Roger finally admits to himself what we've known all along and goes after who he really wants. But for Dorothy, is it too little, too late?

Gen Prompt:After the second reset, no one remembers the previous cycle- no one human, that is. What is Dorothy's life after the reset, and how do her memories effect how she lives that life?

Request #3:Young Wizards-Diane Duane

Characters:Nita Callahan, Ronan Nolan, Lone Power

What I Love About This Series:Magic with consequences and costs to the practitioner. The characters themselves-we've grown up together and I am very fond of all of them.

My Favorite Character: Nita Callahan. She's amazing in her realness, in that she has good characteristics and flaws in equal balance. I like her sense of humor, her outlook, her loyalty to her friends, and her approach to wizardry. I'm telling you, the girl's on the path to being the next Planetary.

My OTP: Ronan/Nita

My NOTP:Kit/Nita

Ship Prompt: The events of Wizards At War left Ronan Nolan with yet another unexpected consequence: a close link with Nita Callahan, the girl who literally shouted him back to life.

Gen Prompt: In one moment, Nita lost almost everything: her partner, her significant other, and her wizardry. Everything, that is, except the attention of One that still can't help Itself from messing with her whenever It can.

Thank you! Happy Yuletide!
