Dear Yuletide Writer 2018

Oct 19, 2018 23:50

Hi! Here we go.

I like:backstory, banter, bittersweet endings, canon divergence, canon fix-its, characters in peril, close escapes, chosen families, couples who argue as an unconscious form of flirting, day in the life, dramatic rescues, hurt/comfort, missing scenes
mutual pining, older man/younger woman,
stories about holidays, weddings, or other special occasions, student/mentor, slow burn relationships.

I do not want: A/B/O, breaking up canon couples, character bashing, explicit sex, explicit violence, issue fic, gender swap, gore, head canons that conflict with established canon, m/m, politics, PWP, second person POV, soul marks.

Full disclosure: I am an admitted shipperholic. I love ship fic,it's my favorite flavor of fan fiction. However, I find I’m more interested in the romantic chase than I am in the final attainment of love and the happily-ever-afters. When it comes to ship fic, I love a good plot with mutual pining, heavy UST, a realization of feelings, a happy resolution, and a fade to black. But if you want to show me how good settled down can be...go for it!

Please realize that this does not mean you must write outright ship fic if you're not comfortable with doing so. A strong gen plot with plenty of hints of shippiness is also one of my favorite types of fan fiction as well.

So onto the fandoms!

1)Agent Pendergast Series-Preston and Child

SPOILERS up to the most recent novel, City of Endless Night

Characters: Aloysius Pendergast, Constance Greene, Corrie Swanson

What I Love About This Series: Murder, mystery, mayhem, and the macabre- all of the good things in life.

My Favorite Character: Constance Greene. Long lived, enimagtic, pragmatic, sharp tongued, occasionally homicidal, definately a little crazy Constance Greene. Her continuing storyline and the implications of her past fascinate me.

My OTP: Aloysius Pendergast/Constance Greene

Why They're My OTP: Constance is extremely important to Pendergast, by his admittance. He’s killed in her defense, lied to authorities to keep her child safe, and basically does whatever it takes to keep her safe. By her own admission, Pendergast is the world to Constance. Killing others and risking her own life on his behalf mean nothing to her if it keeps him alive. They're a beautiful, co-dependent mess that hits all of my buttons.

Prompt One) At the end of City Of Endless Night, Constance agreed to return to New York. Tell me a little about the journey back, how it happened, were there any side trips, how did Pendergast and Constance bump up against their new circumstances on the way home?

Prompt Two) Back home, Pendergast and Constance have to hash out the exact nature of their new relationship one mistake and misunderstanding at a time.

Prompt Three) Corrie Swanson is in town. She and Constance take to each other, to the point where Constance allows herself to be talked into an evening out. Canon typical chaos ensues.

2)The Big O

Characters: R. Dorothy Wayneright, Roger Smith

What I Love About This Series: I love the juxtaposition of film noir and giant robots that makes The Big O seem like a vision of a retro inspired future gone horribly, horribly sideways. I love its wit, the way it rewards paying attention, and its habit of going crazy at the drop of a hat.

My Favorite Character: R. Dorothy Wayneright. The thing I love most about Dorothy is her contradictory nature. As an android, she thinks herself superior to the silly humans; at other times, she tries her best to fit in with them. She’s the strongest one in the room physically but she looks the most frail. I also love her struggle for an identity of her own.

My OTP: Roger Smith/R. Dorothy Wayneright.

Why They Are My OTP: Roger and Dorothy tick off many of my likes mentioned above. Those two are willing to go to great lengths for each other. They have great banter...and go from humor to heartbreak in about 60 seconds. I do believe Dorothy is capable of romantic love and that she is in love with Roger. I believe Roger is in love with Dorothy but is too hung up on various issues to admit it to himself, let alone her.

Prompt One) After the second reset, Roger finally admits to himself what we've known all along and goes after who he really wants. But for Dorothy, is it too little, too late?

Prompt Two) After the second reset, no one remembers the previous cycle- no one human, that is. What is Dorothy's life after the reset, and how do her memories effect it?

3) Earth 2 (TV 1994)

What I Love About This SeriesImperfectly written characters that still managed to make me care about what happened to them. And yes, more batshit craziness: the pollen trope inverted, dream sex, and spiders with the power of teleportation. Not to mention aliens, aliens, and more aliens. Creepy aliens that pop up in your dreams, klepto aliens with a taste for human blood, and cute little aliens that put you into a coma for three days. What's not to love?

My Favorite Character: Heiress, architect, businesswoman, determined mother, and visionary. Throughout the course of the series, Devon Adair came out of her shell and opened up to the others in the group. She learned new roles for an unexpected life as she went along. Yes, I am still mad about ending on THAT cliffhanger, and I will be mad about it until the end of time.

My OTP: John Danziger/Devon Adair. The Princess of The Stations and the drone with a chip on his shoulder. Two people who think they're such opposites finding out how much they have in common. Or finding out how well they work together once the arguing stops. (All of that arguing is verbal foreplay imo)

Prompt One)In the episode Church of Morgan, we got that lovely moment between Devon and Bess about how they viewed each other’s lives when they were children. How Devon thought life on must be romantic and Bess thought that Devon must live like a princess. It set up a nice dynamic...that we never really saw again. Gimme some more girl time.

Prompt Two) True Danziger had her father to herself for twelve years, so it's possible that she wouldn't take too kindly to sharing him with someone else. Especially if that someone else is the (seemingly) perfect Devon Adair. How do Devon and True come to terms with each other? Perhaps there's a situation that they can only get out of by helping each other? Tying in with the first prompt, maybe True finds out about Devon's less than perfect past which helps as well.

Prompt Three)What's an average day for Devon in New Pacifica? What's her role in the daily operations of the colony? Is it her "day job" and if not what is her day job? Who are her friends? Is she single, living with someone, married? Does she have more children? What does she think about the current state of her ambitious Project?

4)seaQuest DSV

Why I Love This Series: When I refer to canon, I refer to season one. I love seaQuest for the sheer batshit crazy of it all. They tried to reign in the crazy but some of the crazy broke free. Ghosts? Aliens? William Shatner as a somewhat credible villain? Fine. I'm there.

My Favorite Character: The woman that seemed to be at the center of a lot of the crazy. Dr. Kristin Westphalen had a hell of a year on seaQuest: held hostage, out bluffing serial killers, being possibly possessed, stuck on a raft in the Bermuda Triangle, taking command in an emergency situation, and so on. Through it all she kept her wits able out her and never missed an opportunity for sarcasm. She's intelligent, capable, and stands up for what she believes in.

Favorite Ship: Nathan Bridger/Kristin Westphalen

Prompt One) Kristin's perspective on the things that happened to her while onboard seaQuest. How does she explain some of them, such as the incident with the ghosts? How does she justify some of her actions, such as contemplating murder? Does she regret anything she did or didn't do while onboard?

Prompt Two) Dr. Rubin Zellar escapes prison. His one goal: revenge on Kristin Westphalen. How does he go about this? How does Kristin handle him this time?

Prompt Three) What happened to Kristin after the first tour?

There we are. Thanks, dear writer! Have fun!
