So if she has a Southern accent, that automatically means that one of her moral values is that gay marriage is wrong? She couldn't have just been, say, slightly surprised for a moment to hear a man say he was married to a man?
Eh, I meant it more as a general comment that no matter what you think about the situation, salesmanship overcomes the personal reaction. For most people gay marriage comes out as a moral issue, whether it's framed in terms of traditionalist/conservative values or of social justice. I don't think anyone in the US today has no reaction, you know? So the smoothness, that's what's unnatural and, in this case, fabulous.
Another example: if a man goes to an expensive or professional or trendy enough makeup store and looks like he's going to pay, he can probably get a makeover from someone who thinks drag queens are scary and weird. It's kind of what the urban world is all about.
