Xcalibur - the DVD box set

We have seen odd episodes of this series on Saturday mornings when we happened to be in, and have now picked up the box set. Having watched the first four episodes in proper order, I am now looking forward racing through all forty. (There are no extras, but transfers and packaging are excellent ( Read more... )

I watched that on Channel 5 when Ant and Dec left SMTV. (Oh, what an exiting existence I have) I thought it was excellent only spoiled by the limitations of the narrative they set themselves. The later ones were better as they explored the format to its limits.

Actually a holiday every four years is more than we have managed, our 'holidays' have been in hotels in Carlyle transporting our youngest back and forth.

Ah yes, I remember catching it on Saturday mornings on Five, although my intent had been to find the Dan Dare stuff in CGI...

There's a certain intellectual cachet in typoing 'Carlisle' as 'Carlyle' (unless your GPS took you to Canada...)

Jean was very fond of the Dan Dare series, but it isn't out of its DVD shrinkwrap, despite buying it what feels like ages ago. I seem to remember the voice cast was pretty good, though. (This is my main objection to the new Captain Scarlet in that the voice cast just isn't a patch on the original.)

In other news

The Xcalibur package has some episodes in the wrong order, as we discovered last night (and later checked on IMDB where there is an excellent review.) Of course, this is also true of Xena and probably many others. In some cases I suspect this started with the original TV broadcast (or a repackaging) and no-one has bothered to correct it. In the same way, episodes are known by the wrong titles (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea for instance, where one episode is always billed as The Phantom when its on-screen title is The Phantom Strikes, and the cast list on screen and/or listings can be totally wrong - ( ... )
