Everytime you post an update my first response is 'Oh, poor Sam!"...you wicked wicked woman XD

I have to point out, however, as someone who has studied psychology and psychonueropharmacology (brain medicine) that there are some problems with the drugs you mentioned and their effects:

* Antidepressants are more likely to cause suicidal tendancies than any amphetamine.

* Dexedrine would not cause addiction in Sam unless he took it for the duration of his coma.

* Antidepressants do not counteract the effects of amphetamines...dopamine antagonists (such as valium) would do that...though they're not the best thing to give to anyone suicidal.

Sorry, just thought you'd like to know for future reference. If you need any help with medication-related questions then feel free to ask.

Can't wait for the next chapter!

Ah! A professional! Usually I try to avoid the med speak since it's not my area, so thank you for the corrections! I might definitely have to pick your brain at some other point.

I did intend for Sam to be on the Dexedrine for most of his coma, at least 3 weeks. Not that that would cause serious dependency or withdrawal symptoms (but you'd know better than I!) but that Gene was overreacting a bit because of his past history.

Argh, poor...everyone! This is heart-wrenching...fluff and cuddles to make it better, please :) Seriously, this is terrific, I'm on the edge of my seat! Ray at the end...aww...and poor Gene, with his past traumas...*awaits more*

Thanks! I'm going to have to write some fluff and cuddles soon just to soothe myself I think.

Eeeek! Have to agree with everyone else that noted how frightening it is for Sam to be under psych eval - and now I'm having horrible Ken Kesey novel thoughts *shudder*

Gene banned... Gene comparing Sam to his brother, not for the first time in the fic -> Gene's just shy of breaking someone, possibly himself, isn't he? Also, loved Ray in this; when Ray was blown up, Sam was suddenly calling him "mate" and incredibly worried, despite their bickering, and I've always harbored the thought that Ray would do the exact same thing, if the tables were turned - you've expressed all that brilliantly here.

Wonderful update, can't wait for more!

Thank you! Psych eval and Sam just don't ever sound good together, do they? It's probably not a good thing that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite films and books, is it?

Hee, one of my favorites, as well; although I think the film really would have been better with more input from Kesey - apparently he pulled out as creative consultant when they chose Nicholson over Gene Hackman as the lead :P And now I've got a terrifying mental image of Sam getting sent to a mental hospital...

On a lighter/similar note - have you seen the series "Spaced?" John Simm was in one episode, and in another, there's a fantastic parody of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," with the main character going to work at a restaurant, which is run my a Nurse Ratched clone, and the staff includes versions of all of the OFOCN characters. Eventually, she realizes that they're all failed writers, just like herself... It's really hilarious.

No I haven't seen those episodes! Now I'm going to have to track them done.

I think if I did a Sam in a mental hospital story, it'd have to be its own fic. Tortured him enough in this one, poor boy.

Nooooo :( Poor Sam :( You've broken our Sammy dolly *weeps* Poor Gene, being banned from teh hospital, loved him beating up the doctor (even if it got poor results) because it made me smile :)

Don't worry. I'll try to piece him back together. For some reason all the doctor's in my fic seem to be pompous jerks, which is odd because I've never had a doctor like that in my life.
