I have to point out, however, as someone who has studied psychology and psychonueropharmacology (brain medicine) that there are some problems with the drugs you mentioned and their effects:
* Antidepressants are more likely to cause suicidal tendancies than any amphetamine.
* Dexedrine would not cause addiction in Sam unless he took it for the duration of his coma.
* Antidepressants do not counteract the effects of amphetamines...dopamine antagonists (such as valium) would do that...though they're not the best thing to give to anyone suicidal.
Sorry, just thought you'd like to know for future reference. If you need any help with medication-related questions then feel free to ask.
Can't wait for the next chapter!

I did intend for Sam to be on the Dexedrine for most of his coma, at least 3 weeks. Not that that would cause serious dependency or withdrawal symptoms (but you'd know better than I!) but that Gene was overreacting a bit because of his past history.

Gene banned... Gene comparing Sam to his brother, not for the first time in the fic -> Gene's just shy of breaking someone, possibly himself, isn't he? Also, loved Ray in this; when Ray was blown up, Sam was suddenly calling him "mate" and incredibly worried, despite their bickering, and I've always harbored the thought that Ray would do the exact same thing, if the tables were turned - you've expressed all that brilliantly here.
Wonderful update, can't wait for more!

On a lighter/similar note - have you seen the series "Spaced?" John Simm was in one episode, and in another, there's a fantastic parody of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," with the main character going to work at a restaurant, which is run my a Nurse Ratched clone, and the staff includes versions of all of the OFOCN characters. Eventually, she realizes that they're all failed writers, just like herself... It's really hilarious.

I think if I did a Sam in a mental hospital story, it'd have to be its own fic. Tortured him enough in this one, poor boy.
