I have to point out, however, as someone who has studied psychology and psychonueropharmacology (brain medicine) that there are some problems with the drugs you mentioned and their effects:
* Antidepressants are more likely to cause suicidal tendancies than any amphetamine.
* Dexedrine would not cause addiction in Sam unless he took it for the duration of his coma.
* Antidepressants do not counteract the effects of amphetamines...dopamine antagonists (such as valium) would do that...though they're not the best thing to give to anyone suicidal.
Sorry, just thought you'd like to know for future reference. If you need any help with medication-related questions then feel free to ask.
Can't wait for the next chapter!

I did intend for Sam to be on the Dexedrine for most of his coma, at least 3 weeks. Not that that would cause serious dependency or withdrawal symptoms (but you'd know better than I!) but that Gene was overreacting a bit because of his past history.

I'm just a big medical science geek - I find it fascinating!
Oh, and in case it happens to crop up in the future...the antidepressants used around that time would be tricyclic and not selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors such as prozac or more modern ones.
