Sev, you have just made my rarepair-loving heart so very, VERY happy ♥ ♥ ♥

A post-2x04 Mrs Luckhurst fic!!!

Well, this has just entered my headcanon. I loved how you explored Mrs Luckhurst in a new and unexpected setting, but with her remarkably unapologetic desire and persistence as intact as ever. She's a savvy woman, savvy enough to know that Gene can't be attracted to her when he's back in character as DCI Hunt. And I adore the way she sizes Gene up and tells him as much. (This did leave me wondering whether she made up the story about her David, though; it seems entirely too convenient for her purposes.)

Gene's nagging ambivalence was completely convincing, the way he thinks about Sam when he's with her, thinks about his wife, even Suki: about anyone, really, but Mrs Luckhurst, which is so telling and so sad. Or... perhaps not ;-) After all, if he's going to think of Mrs Luckhurst as a mouthy mare, it's not meant to be. Right? I'm sure she has no illusions about what Gene is or isn't capable of, she's a clear-eyed woman if ( ... )

First off, as ever - huge relief that you liked this! *collapses happily*

I wasn't sure if this would be necessarily up your alley but I couldn't think of a better tribute to the triumph that was your 2.04 essay on the many fabulous women in that episode and Mrs. Luckhurst has long been an uncelebrated favourite of mine. She does size Gene up so effectively in that one scene and I've long been wanting to pay tribute to the woman who could objectify Gene in one glance the way he objectifies, well, the rest of the universe. *g*

(This did leave me wondering whether she made up the story about her David, though; it seems entirely too convenient for her purposes.)It's a valid question... I like to think I left her depiction of that night open-ended enough to make it both fantasy and fact. There was a big back-story about David's sexuality (being of a sort that gave Mrs Luckhurst a lot more liberty) that made this scenario a lot more plausible but really, this was always meant to be Gene's story more than theirs ( ... )

*hugs back* Well, I don't think I was terribly coherent when I wrote my comment last night, so allow me to add that this fic ROCKS LIKE A ROCKING THING and I'm still in a haze of delight about it. How's that for liking it :-D

I've long been wanting to pay tribute to the woman who could objectify Gene in one glance the way he objectifies, well, the rest of the universe. *g*This. SO MUCH THIS. She's one of the reasons I adored 2x04. I can't think of any other female character in LoM who's so completely at ease with her own sexual appetites in general, so frank about her attraction to Gene in particular ... and that (along with her red-and-pink underwear ;-) is what makes her so delightfully unforgettable ( ... )

Hey, in this case I can fairly say that your "weird kink" is totally mine as well. I love so many of the minor characters of LoM and would love to see them get more love. LOVE.

And wow, talk about a find! WPC Luckhurst AU, anyone? *g*

Damn, yet again I am rendered speechless by your prose (well, not quite).

just hot enough to wring the sweat from Sam’s skin by late afternoon and cast the ghost of an undeniable masculinity in his wake.

I love the way you manage to invoke Sam in this, we never see him but oh boy do we feel his presence...beautifully done. And Gene's ambivalence, his slightly desperate attempts to hide what's really going on from Mrs Luckhurst.

Lovely, lovely, lovely...have a martini!

Aw, it's too kind of you, not just to read this but to leave such a lovely comment! As ever when I write het in this fandom, it always seems to come back around to my slash OTP (as Sam/Gene are for me here) so I'm pleased to know it came across that way.

Thanks for reading!

This is absolutely fantastic! The Gene/Luckhurst encounter in 2.04 has always kind of fascinated me, and this is just... perfect :D - The way Luckhurst sees right through Gene, despite him trying to keep so much hidden.

And the way it's written is beautiful! I love this so much <333

Magnificent! Utterly and completely. I always marvel at the way you craft a sentence. I adore your Mrs. luckhurst, so perceptive and still so true to canon; great plotting, and great use of chamekke's prompt!

Thank you so much! If anything, I was worried my Mrs. Luckhurst would be less than the brilliance she was in that episode, so glad to know she worked here as well :)

Wow, you really have a great way with words. I love how you fleshed out Mrs Luckhurst, she seems perfectly canon in here, so believable. I didn't even think I could get this interested in a minor character, but you did it! Really amazing. And aw Gene, I really pity him there. xD I really hope he'll take the right action after this.
