What do you use to sculpt something that you cast in bronze, other than Irish Springs, of course? Do you use clay?

Step one is traditionally clay, yeah.

Then make a plaster mold of your clay. Scrape out clay and discard.

Make a wax cast from your plaster mold.

"Invest" your wax, which is a fancy way of saying 'Build a mold around it that won't melt when you pour molten goddamned bronze in it.'

Melt out wax, pour bronze. Clean, "chase" and patinate. Ta-daa.
