You've made me feel guilty, but I already have a commitment on Sunday. I finally asked a couple members of our guild to comprise a sewing group at my home, because I need HELP with my fitting and sewing. I'm glad to hear you get groups together too. Do you have any specifically costumes, or is it just crafts? BTW, do you have any photos of any of your costumes?
Awww... oh well. There will be more get-togethers in the future, I'm sure. At this point, I don't have costume-specific get-togethers, simply because if I did, I'd be the only one there! I only have two or three friends who sew, and they're all located in L.A., and refuse to come visit me. Or at least, I *had* two or three friends who sew, until I found out about the costumers' guild. :)
As for photos of my costumes, I've got a few lying around somewhere, although a bunch of them got lost when my computer died a few years ago. Really though, I don't have a lot of complete outfit-type-costumes. I just have a pile of corsets and a bunch of interesting odds and ends, although I'm working on putting together a few more actual outfits these days. My most impressive one is probably this early 1600's court gown that I put together for the DTASC Shakespeare Festival competition in my senior year of high school. (Please excuse the mediocre web design and broken links... I haven't updated that page in YEARS. Eventually, I'll get

Wow, your green dress is beautiful. Let me see how my sewing group goes because if there isn't a lot of people interested, I can ask a few more. I have six right now and I want to make it monthly. I have a feeling one of them won't be a regular so that will leave a spot open, and I can pull you into my web. :) I should know in the next week how many there will be. It's on the 18th, btn 10 & 5. I live in Rancho San Diego, south of El Cajon.
Whoo! More sewing groups! Rancho San Diego's a bit farther than I'm usually willing to drive, being somewhat of a lazy bum, but it'd definitely be worth going at least once, if there's an opening. :)
BTW, I like the purple print that you found for your 1830's dress. I've been looking for what seems like ages for a nice cotton print to make up Simplicity #4551, but I'm not having any luck (although, to be fair, I'm probably just being too picky. Really, is a charcoal grey/black early-victorian-style print with kind of a stripey design going on so much to ask?)
I'm not a cook (nor do I particularly like sourdough), but I know that you are, so when I ran across this on the web I thought of you. The website is www.carlsfriends.org, and if you send them a #10 SASE, they will send you half an ounce of sourdough starter culture that dates back to 1847. Obviously, it won't arrive in time for your shindig on Saturday, but still, pretty cool!
Oooh... thank you muchly for this. I haven't been doing much baking lately, but sourdough starter is something I've often wondered about in the past. I don't know how soon I'll get around to trying this, but I'll definitely let you know how it turns out.
By the way, I still have a bag of orange peel candy sitting in my kitchen that I set aside for you. i'm such a dork... I just need to track down a box and mail the darn thing. (It's a good thing that candy doesn't go bad! And in case you're worried, I had some of my brother's while I was up at his house, and it was still just fine.)
LOL! I'm amazed that you've kept the candy this long! No worries, there's a shelf in my cupboard for the getting a bit old but still perfectly good candy I got from family during the holidays. :) I hope you have fun at your stich and bitch this afternoon!
