A/N: Everything funny, atmospheric, authentic and accurate is a2zmom's. This woman did on site research for me. Twice. And she uh, wrote like half of this. Twice. So, much thanks, &tc.
Great to see a new chapter! I love to see Angel being so petty about the clothes: that is SO him! And Buffy - wanting to shop for herself. And the sales clerk!!
Dayum! This reminds me - totally - - of shopping at Macy's, and the good-lookikng male sales clerks who were always more interested in whatever guy I was in there with! lalalalala!

When you sit down and think about it, Angel and Buffy really don't have that much in common interest-wise. I mean, what would they do together, if they did get a chance to be normal and happy? Answer: shop. Probably for lingerie for Buffy, with Angel checking out her outfits. In a private dressing room with a lot of mirrors. That, and sex. Lots of sex. In the private dressing room with a lot of mirrors.

Ha! I'm so glad this resonates with personal experiences.
This was so funny- Angel's confusion and his expensive taste and his grooming obsession. Jake was a wonderful original character and I loved the talk between he and Buffy.
Especially once he got acclimated to the experience. He has good taste, artistic sensibilities, and predilection to get obsessed. At first, he'd be confused and horrified by a modern department store - especially one as huge as Macy's in NYC. But once he got used to it, you wouldn't be able to drag him away. He'd be scary.
*** As a side note, when I met up with a2zmom NYC, I called the Tie Tables at Macy's as the meeting point.
But once he got used to it, you wouldn't be able to drag him away. He'd be scary.
Whoa. When you met a2zmom, did you take half her brain? Because that was the half that's actually mine. Because I was working on this fic just now and just wrote something freakishly similar.
I bet all Angel did after Whistler showed him Buffy is shop. He shopped till he dropped. Then he got distracted by the women's jewelry and stood staring at the cross pendants for hours and hours. He came back every day just to look at the cross pendants, wondering which one would look best on her and whether he'd ever get the chance to give her one. Then when he finally bought the perfect one he had to have the saleswoman box it up before he could take it. I've always wanted to write a fic about that.
All the back and forth paid off - you turned this chapter into a thing of beauty. And running to Macy's was fun; I used to shop there all the time before moving to the land of no tax on clothes (ie, New Jersey).
That was so you and you know it. Thank you so much.

I didn't know that! Texas is one of those states that has a tax free holiday before school starts, but it's best if you just don't leave your house during that weekend. Everywhere is NUTS; it's as bad as the weekend before Christmas.
I somehow missed the last chapter of this, so I had two to gobble up just now. Scrumptious details. Your tone is perfect -- a very Jossian blend of brood, heartache and darkness, with completely charming flashes of sweetness and drollery. You know your characters extremely well, to be able to bend their dispositions to match their AU experiences, yet make them so utterly themselves.

Thanks for the pretty fb.

Anyone peeking might have the same reaction as Xander did when Buffy was invisible at Spike's crypt.

And an entire chapter in which the Angel and Buffy go shopping. *gags on the line between "charming flashes" and cutesy fluff*
You know your characters extremely well, to be able to bend their dispositions to match their AU experiences, yet make them so utterly themselves.
I have a2zmom to thank for that. She saved Angel from doing some pretty unAngel-y things.
And much thanks. I really very much value your opinion.
