A/N: Everything funny, atmospheric, authentic and accurate is a2zmom's. This woman did on site research for me. Twice. And she uh, wrote like half of this. Twice. So, much thanks, &tc.
This was so funny- Angel's confusion and his expensive taste and his grooming obsession. Jake was a wonderful original character and I loved the talk between he and Buffy.
Especially once he got acclimated to the experience. He has good taste, artistic sensibilities, and predilection to get obsessed. At first, he'd be confused and horrified by a modern department store - especially one as huge as Macy's in NYC. But once he got used to it, you wouldn't be able to drag him away. He'd be scary.
*** As a side note, when I met up with a2zmom NYC, I called the Tie Tables at Macy's as the meeting point.
But once he got used to it, you wouldn't be able to drag him away. He'd be scary.
Whoa. When you met a2zmom, did you take half her brain? Because that was the half that's actually mine. Because I was working on this fic just now and just wrote something freakishly similar.
I bet all Angel did after Whistler showed him Buffy is shop. He shopped till he dropped. Then he got distracted by the women's jewelry and stood staring at the cross pendants for hours and hours. He came back every day just to look at the cross pendants, wondering which one would look best on her and whether he'd ever get the chance to give her one. Then when he finally bought the perfect one he had to have the saleswoman box it up before he could take it. I've always wanted to write a fic about that.
Angel shopping would be interesting. Who knows what he'd get fixated on.
And not only does he have taste, I should point out that his father was a linen merchant. He'd really know fabrics, probably more from a sensualist's perspective than anything else... And probably, he's probably still somewhat miffed at what it costs to have clothing personally tailored. Prices are probably shocking for a guy who probably paid $35 for a suit (and it was a really good one!) the last time he bought one.
In any case, I picture Angel very easily getting distracted and fixated onto different things in a department store. Seriously - there probably isn't any section he couldn't get lost in.

I'm glad you liked it. I owe you and southernbangel fb on chapter 4 of Come Undone--I'm lovin' that fic.

Weirdly, Angel always looked like a stable hand in the historical flashbacks.
I think he'd shy away from the perfume aisles. I have trouble walking down those aisles, and I don't have a heightened sense of smell.
But now you've got me picturing Angel in the kids' section touching a little white dress and thinking about his sister's First Communion.
