in which I beg for help again!

It's no secret that I've gained quite a bit of weight. I'm working on losing it right now, but obviously that isn't going to be an over night thing. My diet is holding up, and if I just manage to get myself exercising more frequently, I think I could really be successful ( Read more... )

It does take time, but maybe try scouring thrift stores, boutiques, and consignment stores if you're looking for budget-friendly clothing (though IDK how much of that stuff you have available where you are -- we have a shitton of them here, though) Places made specifically for plus-size aren't much good as far as I know, unless they're in the pricey end of the spectrum -- for the most part, just check out stuff that you think will look good on you, regardless of what category it's been placed under. I have some plus size friends, and they just shop in regular stores ( ... )

There are a few thrift stores in the area. I haven't had much luck with them, but occasionally I stumble upon a find or two. The problem with regular stores is that I have issues find clothes that are my size but still fairly, well, not old peopleish.

I think I'll probably have to just buckle down and do that. I despise trying on loads and loads of clothing, especially when I'm not happy with the way I look right now. Still, it's better that grabbing a huge, frumpy thing and not even trying it on. dfscnhslodkfhndkls SEX MARATHON. This is how I'll look at the process from now on.

God, I know. Guh.

It's definitely worth buckling down. I honestly never buy a single item without having tried it on first. It helps, too, if you're eyeing something slightly more expensive--sometimes having one expensive, nice item you truly love is better than having several non-expensive stuff that you're unhappy with.

BUT YEAH like someone else said down below, shopping is a bitch for all of humanity, so don't be discouraged. I can go up and down five blocks of stores and maybe find one thing that I like. The key is just to dive in and keep at it, and check out as many stores as possible, even if from the window display it doesn't look like what you want. Sometimes there are gems hidden inside. :3

ALSO may I suggest investing in a nice coat and scarves. A nice, durable, but fancy-ish coat will make any outfit look good, and you can make the same outfit look different just by switching out the scarves you wear.

Nice sketch :)

As for "how to make clothes look good on a limited budget" I go with many mix-and-match ensembles, but I don't have a choice in the matter, as my upper body's dress size is like twice that of my lower body just on account of boobage.

I think the trick is, unless you're one of those very slender model types that you try your best to present an hour-glass figure - that is, smaller waist, wider hip ratio, and it can be accomplished numerous ways but ultimately I think you just have to try on clothes that fit and while price is important, I'm still wearing clothes I have from ten years ago because they are good quality and fit me properly.

Anyway, I don't think that's much help but good luck on your weight loss, and holler at me if you want some nutritional advice. I know more about sport-specific training, but I'll help where I can.

Thanks! I'm working on a few more. I don't have any kind of scanner, so I'll just have to keep tossing up horrible quality photots ( ... )

I find it difficult to cram in all the servings I'm supposed to have in a day while keeping up with the smaller portions guidelineThis is where the 'eat every few hours' thing comes into play - portions are smaller, but it gets your body into the mode that 'there's plenty of food' that's why starvation diets are hard - your body is designed to survive a famine, so if it notices a huge change in eating habits, it will go, "We're in trouble!" and start hoarding and weight loss will be impeded ( ... )

Speaking as a bigger girl who still loves to wear ~pretty~ clothes, yeah, it can be ridiculously hard. Plus size clothes are very hit and miss as far as styles are; while there can be some good finds, there are fewer than the sections with the smaller clothes in them. And what sucks most is that the plus size sections seem to cater only to older women and forget that there are younger ones who of course still want to wear clothing that makes them look their age.

Now, like continuum said, the key is to try things on. It's not really a matter of making sure things "fit and that's it" so much as it's to make sure it fits your body in the right way - that is, being flattering and hiding what you don't want shown while showing off what you do ( ... )

I haven't been to JC Penny in a while. I think there are some Fashion Bugs nearby, though. I live in Baltimore, MD, and I've got lots of options.

I'm the same. I've always been curvier, but I lost my job and got depressed and had all kinds of life stressers and issues. It's really not as good of a reason as yours, but it's what happened. I have no good excuse for not exercising much. I just really loathe breathing heavily and sweating and panting, and I'll be honest. I'm not satisfied with my appearance and feel self conscious jogging around the block or something.

Thanks! I've already had a few. I hate trying stuff on right now, so I grab what looks to be a decent, plain shirt and go. Only to find later that it doesn't fit right. I just need to bite the bullet, buckle down, and go in the dressing room.

And thanks again! It's awful phone quality, but I'm thinking of coloring it for him. I just got a bunch of my old art supplies from when I lived with my parents.

I know what you mean. I've seen Walmart's p-size selection as I was shopping for my auntie (27). Half the shit there is for older women, it's ridiculous. Tops are always horrendous, but it could be just the one you checked out ( ... )

Most of the ones I've been to are just awful. I'm going there later for some grocery shopping, so maybe I'll do a more thorough search this time. They seem to have a few okay things online. The question is whether or not the store actually has them in stock.

I'm awful with a needle, and I don't know anyone off the top of my head that can really sew. I'm going to steadily buy one or two things when I can, probably with birthday money, and try to be a little pickier about it. And try it on. Like I said before, because I'm not happy with my appearance right now, I hate trying anything on. I'm going to have to, though, if I want anything that looks alright.

Ha, I guess that's true. I had some issues even when I was smaller. It's just that the plus size stuff at a lot of locations seem so much older and uglier in addition to the difficulty with finding something that fits well. I think the fact that I'm where I am with not being satisfied with myself at the moment probably contributes to this perception too, though.

Ebay might be good too, if you take proper measurements with tape and compare to clothing there. Same for pretty much most online stores.

This site has some cute stuff and only like 7.50 for shipping in US.
