LJArchive

Just in case you didn't know, LJArchive is a windows application that can back up an LJ type journal or community (you have to own the journal or be a member of the community though). It runs under Microsoft's .NET Framework (you have to have at least .NET 1.1 installed) and acts as a browser for downloaded and backed-up comments.

I'm tending to think that a unix-like equivalent to LJArchive may be in private beta testing, but isn't actually available presently. It would be interesting (to me) to try to automate renote access to LJ's download facility, but user access to their own content outside the Microsoft .NET framework probably isn't encouraged. In any case, knowing that the LJArchive client uses proprietary program libraries and depends on secret server protocols--does it work with Russian LJ, does anybody know?--is enough to keep me from even experimenting with it. Glad I only have a few dozen entries...
