In one of his standup routines, Chris Rock admonishes his audience's homophobia, saying, "You all got at least a gay cousin." Statistically, I'll bet he's at least close to right.

This is a letter written by Sharon Underwood of White River Junction, Vermont, to the editor of the West Lebanon, NH Valley News. (Sadly, the Valley News doesn't seem ( Read more... )

Oddly enough, I do not (to my knowledge, and given that I have a few cousins whom I do not have contact with, I could be wrong) have any gay cousins. On the other hand I do have a gay uncle and a gay aunt. Neither of whom I talk to nearly as much as I should. Also, they both happen to be on my dad's side of the family.

That being said, I would far rather have a gay child than an intolerant one. In point of fact, if I ever happen to have a little girl, I hope she is gay (I DON'T WANT BOYS TOUCHING HER!) ;-). But seriously, when was the last time you heard about a homosexual assualting a straight person?

Bah, intolerance and stupidity run rampant, we need another flood.

I agree, well, with gay over intolerant. And if you ever do have a little girl, I'm *QUITE* sure the sight of her ginormous father cleaning his shotgun collection on the front porch as he pulls up will keep them away. Assuming you ever find a woman willing to procreate with you, doh!

You? Gay? WHAT!?! OK, you hit on me ALL THE TIME, I'm pretty sure you like female types ple-hen-tay :)

I have no gay relatives at all, to my knowledge. Most of my relatives line in VERY rural Indiana, and I'm pretty sure they still lynch people there.

I dated a girl in high school who, after she'd heard this, thought for a moment and said, "I can at least vouch for you being bi."

Also, I never got into fist fights, most of my friends were girls, I preferred books and drawing over sports, and I preferred taking care of people over ridiculing them. Hence, I was obviously gay.

You might be right...or that one gay cousin might be in the closet, what with the lynchings and all.

My mom totally was like this. Well...mom wouldn't have been able to keep her cool this this lady does, but the sentiment is spot-on.

That day is coming, mon frere, and hopefully it will be hastened along by the realization that too many people just need to calm the hell down.
