The Grocery Store

It may have been too far in the distance to tell what was being said, but the behavior was unmistakable. Some poor man wondered up in front of the old convenience store, and made a request in an inquisitive tone. The people in the store came out, took one look, and picked the man off. He hadn't been threatening. He hadn't made any gestures to indicate that he was carrying a weapon. And the people holding the grocery store? Obviously were well armed.

That put Kay in a conundrum. He could amble up and try to reason with them. Or he could say "fuck it", go in, and take what he needed because they obviously had nothing to trade and these cock-suckers looked like the sort that would just fuckin' take what they goddamn well wanted anyway.

The group split into two. Kay intending to move the agents through the buildings around the store to steal into the back, Narvin and and Eddie preparing to guard the front from a distance. There was plenty to hide behind (and he sincerely hoped Eddie had enough experience to avoid being shot at).

Regardless of whether they were inmates or not, Kay needed his men armed. Thankfully there was one man in the back, standing alone under an "exit" sign. Pacing idly, as if bored despite the fact his comrades had gunned a man in front of the establishment minutes earlier. Finally. Cooper took the handgun, looking it over, checking the ammo, feeling its weight. It wasn't what he was used to, but it was usable, and that was all that mattered at this point. He'd seen enough shit to know that he did not like this port any more than he'd liked Christmas in Germany. Or Bavaria. Or wherever the fuck they'd been. He nodded at Kay's orders, because they were standard; he was going to do what was necessary and nothing more.

Besides, he couldn't imagine finding kids in there. This was a hell of a place for kids to grow up.

Assuming they hadn't turned into mutants.
