DAY 1 most_feared February 25 2011, 23:24:55 UTC
The Grocery Store most_feared February 25 2011, 23:44:29 UTC
It may have been too far in the distance to tell what was being said, but the behavior was unmistakable. Some poor man wondered up in front of the old convenience store, and made a request in an inquisitive tone. The people in the store came out, took one look, and picked the man off. He hadn't been threatening. He hadn't made any gestures to indicate that he was carrying a weapon. And the people holding the grocery store? Obviously were well armed.

That put Kay in a conundrum. He could amble up and try to reason with them. Or he could say "fuck it", go in, and take what he needed because they obviously had nothing to trade and these cock-suckers looked like the sort that would just fuckin' take what they goddamn well wanted anyway.

The group split into two. Kay intending to move the agents through the buildings around the store to steal into the back, Narvin and and Eddie preparing to guard the front from a distance. There was plenty to hide behind (and he sincerely hoped Eddie had enough experience to avoid being shot at).

Regardless of whether they were inmates or not, Kay needed his men armed. Thankfully there was one man in the back, standing alone under an "exit" sign. Pacing idly, as if bored despite the fact his comrades had gunned a man in front of the establishment minutes earlier. And much to Kay's relief, appeared to be well armed (on odd thing to be relieved about ( ... )

Finally. Cooper took the handgun, looking it over, checking the ammo, feeling its weight. It wasn't what he was used to, but it was usable, and that was all that mattered at this point. He'd seen enough shit to know that he did not like this port any more than he'd liked Christmas in Germany. Or Bavaria. Or wherever the fuck they'd been. He nodded at Kay's orders, because they were standard; he was going to do what was necessary and nothing more.

Besides, he couldn't imagine finding kids in there. This was a hell of a place for kids to grow up.

Assuming they hadn't turned into mutants.

He was ready to get back to the Barge.

"You sure Nygma isn't going to get himself killed out front?" He didn't sound too disappointed with the idea.

Wash waited beside Cooper, waiting for any opporunity to finally get something done. The sight of the two pistols made him inhale slowly with relief. He could finally take out those numnuts running the other guns. He mimicked Cooper unintentionally, checking how much ammo there was in the clip, the firing mechanism, and cocked it almost immediately. It was smooth for an antique.

Still, he was in agent mode and replied curtly, "Roger that."

Not that he would necessarily follow that. He preferred this environment to the prison-like structure of the Barge.

Sadly, if either one of them shot their own (no matter how tempting that it might be), Kay would probably remove the additional threat from the picture. Cooper, he trusted to know better... to some extent. Eddie was trying. Wash he didn't know that well, and was planning to keep an eye on him.

"One of you needs to hold the back. Narvin's out front and he's going to pick them off as they come out. He won't miss. Superhuman eyes. Nygma's there to draw attention away from us." That was Eddie's best use in this scenario.

He unstrapped the hunting rifle and headed for that back door, keeping a careful eye out for any lurkers.

Cooper glanced between the two of them, cocking his gun and turning to take another look at the area. He didn't trust Wash to take the rear; he trusted Kay to do it, but barely. So Cooper locked his jaw. "And you're going in, is that right?" He exhaled through his nose, and took up a spot near the door.

"I'll make sure no one gets in." He'd rather go help pick them off, but a mission could go south without rear support.

Wash frowned over at Cooper for taking the back, as he didn't trust the other agent to not shoot him in the back. Not in the slightest. Having anyone stand behind him was a trial.

"I don't think so," his expression darkened. "I'll take the back."

He didn't need another South, or another nearly severed spine.

Narvin and Eddie had the easier job: stay up on the hill hidden behind some rocks and scrubby bushes, pick off any hostiles that might try to trap the agents in the building, and avoid shooting their own people.

Although Narvin thought that Eddie might have trouble with that last one, if recent events were anything to go by.

He sighted along his pistol at one of the humans who was swiftly stripping down the murdered man of all his possessions, including even his shoes and shirt. As soon as the shots started inside, he'd be ready to fire.

"Make sure you actually aim this time," Narvin muttered to Eddie.

"How very reassuring," he replied when Eddie averred that a serious attempt on his life would be well-planned. Eddie's reference to his weaponized cane, however, elicited less sarcasm and more curiosity. Hidden weapons were highly relevant to Narvin's interests, and discussion of such would prevent him from thinking about all the things that could even now be going wrong behind the building. "Weaponized, how so? Blaster? Electrical pulse?"

Narvin didn't want to think too closely about what the hostiles were doing or might do to the remains of the dead human. He certainly didn't want to think about what would happen if this raid failed. "Savage animals," he hissed under his breath. They made even the vampires look like peaceful Trakenites in comparison.

He shrugged with one shoulder. "They're messy, but effective." Narvin preferred the clean sterility of a staser himself, but felt he had to defend what had become his new standard weapon.

When Eddie nudged him, he rose to a crouch, ready to move if the humans proved to be too much for the two of them to handle, and watched as Eddie fired, pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

"Speaking of messy but effective...good shot," he said as he fired twice and picked off two humans as they came out the front door.

"If we have to leave our position, I'll cover you, then follow." Narvin didn't like risking his neck, certainly not for Eddie of all people, but it was the most practical strategy. The Gallifreyan double cardiovascular system meant that if he got shot he could bleed out from one but still survive on the second. And while Eddie was part of his team, Narvin had an obligation to him.

An old house, still sturdy enough to have been left standing, would be a good place to wait out the night. Hide a fire from any insects that might be attracted to it and give them a chance to rest up for the rest of the journey the next day.
