In truth, Adrian hadn't wanted to attend the party. As of late, he had just been going through the motions of normalcy, refusing to even acknowledge what had happened. He felt like he had taken a drug that had erased his consciousness but left his body intact, like he was on autopilot, the dissatisfied dualist ( ... )

The Marquis did not come with as high hopes as Adrian did, but that was just the sort of effect being a Warden had on him, wasn't it? Promise of festivities, and here he was fretting about his Inmate. As a libertine, however, he was still more solitary than most, which was what so many had considered one oddity regarding him -- not the bizarre things that pleased him, as there seemed to be a line of familiarity in most aristocratic men. Rather, it was that he preferred to conduct those things in privacy, without the company of other libertines. It made him seem more brazen in his youth ( ... )

"Oh, hello, Adrian," Dorian said. Normally he might have been bothered by people just walking in, but the door had been left barely closed, as he had prepared for people to begin arriving. Adrian set down a small object which began to pour forth surprising music, inexplicably, and Dorian's face lit up with delight. "That is fantastic..." he said, of the device more than the music, though as the music played he found it both different and quite pleasant ( ... )

"The wine I'm familiar with, the absinthe not so much." He raised an eyebrow, and unfortunately his present distraction meant he did not realize the implied invitation. "Though I have heard about it." His senses were not so scrambled that he had forgotten his manners, however. "Le Marquis de Sade, at your service."

Clapet hasn't been to a party in a long, long time. But, hey, if some English ponce wanted to invite him to one, it'd make a nice change to frowning at the very idea of his warden. So he's there, sipping at wine and studying people whilst looking particularly French.

Good way to figure people out, if nothing else.

Dorian was now occupying himself by fulfilling his role as host and was making a circuit of the room. He made it over this way and found a new face. Dorian was, at this point in the party, flushed and smiling with drink.

"Hello," he said, placing a hand on the man's forearm, "I don't believe we've met. I'm Dorian..." A pause while he waits for the mans name, but then he looks into the man's wine glass, and adds, "Have you got enough wine?"

Clapet looks over with a smile, but gives him a generous smile, "Jean-Claude and... you can never have enough wine, correct?"

He drains what was left in his glass, "Nice to meet you, by the way."

"You are absolutely correct, Jean-Claude..." Smiling, Dorian leaned to pick up the nearest open bottle of wine, and murmured, "Tell me when."

He began to pour out some wine into his glass, waiting to be told to stop.

Tony suspected that Dorian's alcohol would be a punch of expensive stuff that would be totally foreign to him, so he went ahead and brought a six pack of Moosehead Lager, which he was more than willing to share with anyone who wanted some.

David Bowie. Cool. Damn, JD probably would have loved it here. They'd probably have danced, gotten drunk, and had sex in a closet or something. Tony chased the thought out of his mind. JD had been gone for months, and as depressing as it was to know that even if he forged a new relationship with someone else that they could vanish as well, it was best to enjoy the company of those who were there while it lasted.

Dorian had been making his rounds and at some point in the evening made his way over to a man who was drinking something strange from a very small bottle. He perched himself down beside him.

"Hello there... my name's Dorian," he smiled and reached a hand towards him to shake.

"Hey," he greeted, shaking Dorian's hand. "I'm Tony. You're the guy throwing the party, right?"

"Indeed I am," he glanced again to the small bottle, and gestured to it. "I was going to ask if you were properly supplied with wine, but it seems you've brought something of your own. What is that, by the way?"

Dorian was, always, curious about new things.

Akio preferred his own private kind of parties, but he hadn't seen anything like this on the Barge. And he was going to busy tomorrow night. So he arrives around 10 p.m., dressed in his favorite red shirt, but with it half-unbuttoned and his hair down.

He didn't have anything to contribute to the drinks, but he wasn't likely to be drinking either. Watching. Dancing maybe. Maybe even flirting a little. He assumed the adults would come to this party, the ones that didn't mind a few games. This Dorian person could be interesting.

He found a spot where he could watch as many people as possible.

Dorian had been up and trying to initiate some people to begin dancing, but failing, he laughed at them and told them they were boring and landed in a seat beside this man. Smiling and half breathless, he said, "Stick around a while longer, I promised dancing and there will be dancing. Perhaps just not with these sorry fellows," he nodded at some who had just gone to sit again.

"We have not met. My name is Dorian," he held out his hand.

Akio stretched his legs and smiled lazily. "I prefer to watch for now, myself. I'm Akio Ohtori. I think you're new." He'd enjoyed watching so far. If nothing else, their host, who was sitting right here now, was easy on the eyes if a little old for his tastes. The Barge was entirely too devoid of impressionable, good-looking teenagers.

"That I am," he said, dismissively, and looked out again at the others gathered here. "Enjoy your watching, but I do hope that you will mingle and enjoy yourself while you are here."

A party sounded amusing, and Persephone definitely felt herself to be in the need of one. Despite her love and approval of people, she hadn't been as social with them as she should have been, other than picking around with people during the floods. So, now she carried a bottle of wine with her as she moved towards Dorian's cabin, wondering what a party aboard the barge would be like. She couldn't imagine that it would be very much fun, but she was willing to make the attempt anyway.

It was not overly crowded when she arrived, and those who were there were all either sitting and drinking and mostly keeping to themselves or chatting with each other. Dorian had tried to get more lively activities going, dancing, but his efforts did not seem to stick.

Dorian had spotted her when she arrived and made his way over shortly. She was, as yet, the first woman to arrive and that fact could not be overlooked. She was also incredibly beautiful.

"Hello and welcome," he smiled. "My name is Dorian Gray. Might I ask your name?" his tone was all interest and half-drunk pleasure.

Persephone was not discouraged by the fact that she was the lone woman who had arrived for the party. She fully expected that straight men and other women would show up eventually, and if they did not then it wasn't going to be anything like skin off her nose. It had been far too long since she'd been at any sort of party, and she would enjoy it. The bottle of spring wine was held carelessly, the neck dangling from between two fingers and she smirked when the man came over and introduced himself as Dorian Gray.

"I am Persephone." Her tone said that she expected people to know her name, because she definitely did. "It is nice to meet you, Dorian Gray. Thank you for inviting me to this party."

Persephone. She was gorgeous and exotic and Dorian immediately took her for a harlot. A very highly paid one, but a harlot nonetheless. Dorian was not unused to beautiful women with Grecian names and exquisite faces who charged for their time. He was not one to judge. Quite the contrary, he was pleased to see her.

"The pleasure is mine, Persephone," he said, and, taking the bottle, he added, "Allow me... would you like me to pour out a glass of this, or would you prefer something else?" he gestured broadly to the open bottles on the table.
