[Rube is sitting at a table in the corner, alone but for his dog, eating from a plate of leftover pancakes and bacon - his breakfast, now that breakfast shift is over. He's flipping through a book he found laying on the table.]

Rube scrutinized 11-12 for a moment, then returned to his food. "I'll see what I can do."

"Um... Thanks again," 11-12 nodded politely and turned to go.

[George ate breakfast a little late this morning. Since she doesn't have an Inmate yet, she doesn't have a lot to do, so she sleeps in. There's an upshot to this. It means she gets to pester Rube -- which is exactly what she's doing. She's just cleaned her own plate, so empty-handed she plops down across from him.]

Bacon's good this morning?

[He shrugs, as if undecided on the matter.]

It's better when I make it, but no one complained. Enjoying life on Easy Street?

Y'know? Not as much as I might have a few years ago.

[And it was true. She could remember a time when she would have killed to sleep in. Now it just makes her antsy.]

I don't remember turnover taking this long before. Did the Admiral change some things while I was gone?

Crash landing in a port overtaken by the Master throws a kink in the best laid plans of wardens and inmates.

[He takes another bite of bacon, then throws the rest of it back on the plate.]

This is cold.

Fair enough, I guess, but what about the best laid plans of Admirals?

If the Admiral even has a flight plan, I'll be very, very surprised.

[She smiles.] Want me to heat that bacon up for you?

[He glances at his watch and shakes his head.] No thanks, Peanut. Mason needs a walk before lunch.

[As he speaks, he passes a piece of leftover bacon to the dog.]

[George leans to the side so she can get a good look at the dog. Huh. She never figured him for a pet person, but --]

You named your dog Mason?

[Rube glances down at the dog, then looks back at George.]

You don't see the resemblance?

Not really. This little guy seems pretty sober, to me.

He's noisy, he pisses himself whenever a woman talks to him, he likes to sleep on the floor, and he eats table scraps. If that's not Mason, I don't know what is.

[George makes a sound. She's really not that big a laugher, so there's just a noise, and a smile.]

Okay, I guess I can see your point. Betcha this one gets away with more though. Basset Hounds kind of invented the puppy dog face. See?
