Job hunting continues to slog along.  Although perhaps that's the wrong adjective today.  I had a very pleasant conversation this afternoon with a Sig in Dubai who might be able to help me get a more research oriented job.  Lately I'd sort of given up on getting a job that would put my physics background to use, but it seems that hope never dies.

Paul and Carole would probably like opals, albeit for different reasons ;). Though I'm sure they'd appreciate a postcard just as much.

Gifts and postcards

I'll send out a new batch of postcards in the near future. Keep an eye out for the mass email (but be aware that you're on a very small list of people who I send cards to regardless of whether they respond to the mass email).

As for gifts, any time I've sent gifts back with someone who visited me it's always been problematic to get the gifts to their intended recipents (Shireen still hasn't dropped stuff off at my Mom's place).

I'd seriously just mail them. Opals are small, and postcards are light.

As for gifts, I'd again mail them, either budgeting for a lengthy trip (like I should have), or picking gifts that fit within the inexpensive size/weight class (like I'm going to in the future).

As for Shireen delivering things for you, that's between you and her, but calling her would probably help, as would suggesting that she just mail them to your mother (giving whatever the current address is). My understanding is that she'd made a few attempts to get in touch with both parents, and hadn't been able to (beyond a single contact with your mother that I'm remembering).

Find it on a map, then look at the countries east of it, they're pretty crazy. The country north ot it is kooky. The big desert country both south and east? Bug house nuts. I don't think I'll be doing too much local travel. But the UAE and especially Dubai is pretty sane. Booze is OK to drink (for foreigners). And there's plenty of money floating around...

You're much braver than I. I'd be too terrified I'd inadvertently break some rule and end up on the wrong side of the law. Heck, I'm terrified of that here, but at least all they can do is throw me in jail instead of chopping me into sushi and rolling me up in a blue tarp. O.O;;;

Well, there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity (which I probably crossed long ago, I mean jeez, going to the beach in the middle of a F-5 huricane, I'm just begging for a Darwin Award). I'll be careful, I promise. And watch out for the mass emails form me if you want a postcard.
