At my age (44), I've never had to experience the loss of a good friend.  I've lost family members (grandparents, great-aunts and uncles, mother-in-law) and casual acquaintances, but never a close friend.   It's hard enough to deal with it at our age.  Teens and young adults should not have to face it.

It's October. You know what that means? Pink ribbons everywhere. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so let's make some money while preying on women's emotions. My daughter told me about a book called "Pink Ribbons, Inc.: Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy" by Samantha King. I definitely want to read it.

Our fears were confirmed. Our neighbor was found dead, but I don't know the circumstances. How sad. It does appear that he had people who cared about him. Sad thing is, we never knew his last name. RIP Steve.
