A year gone by...

Today was a sad day for me. Not only is it the last day of 2005, but it marked a somber occassion which only has significance to me. I reailized today, after my two week break of doing nothing but watching movies, TV, hanging out with family and friends, and playing video games that I'm almost 25, in a year I'll be a full-fledged M.D. and that my ( Read more... )

You know, I was thinking of these same thoughts today. It scares me to think that people might one day have to rely on me. I can barely rely on myself. However, I've never ended up where God could not sustain me. It takes all the faith I can muster, though. I hope everything works out for you. You've put a lot of work into what you are doing.

Things will be and always have been fine, actually never better, truth be told, but only by the grace of God. My relative silence on LJ is a testament to that. It seems I'm never more vocal than when I'm down. Someday, it will be second nature...to bear these responsibilities. The key, I believe, is to find balance. Not to be too consumed by everything and yet not be too careless. The great tight-rope walk we call Life.

It's a good thing that you're "officially" becoming an adult. It's really not a bad thing. It doesn't mean that you can't have fun or be silly sometimes. These things have their time and their place. 1 Corinthians 13 is all about love, but please notice that Paul also writes about a time to put away childish things. As people who strive to be mature in our faith, we have to be willing to take that on, even if the world ridicules us for doing that. But to fulfil what must be done, what is expected of us, is also an exercise in love, and the more that we do it, the deeper our relationship with God and with others becomes. That is ( ... )

I thought of 1 Corinthians acutually as I wrote this. Paul's words never seeemed to echo so true. And I agree with you that a lot of suffering has been wrought by the disintegration of people in our generation failing to take on these responsibilities. I can't help but think of the Romans in some ways, in their last days...lazy, indolent, and prodigal. Make no mistake, I'm excited to be an adult. It's more the loss of time...of being without care, that I'll miss. I've always risen to the occassion, and this is no different. I appreciate your kindness, as always. Thank you, Cathy. :)

I felt that way as I left for Leeds this September. It's scary and thrilling all at the same time. :)
