We went with our kids to a science fair type thing put on by a city near the school today. One part of it was a presentation on global warming...it was interesting. They talked about the Netherlands and how the whole country is below sea level...like the city of New Orleans.
Yeah, we're basically fucked. Then again, they said that about our country years and years ago and we're still here. We're experts in water management because of it, though. (We actually warned New Orleans that their dams and dikes weren't sufficient anym ore and offered to repair and improve, but we were told it wasn't necessary.)
So don't worry, we'll figure something out. We're already building houses that can float on water, as well as roads, bridges, and all sorts of structures that we build on a flotation device. So if the sea rises, then we'll rise with it.
Thanks for thinking of me, hun, you're a total sweetheart. *hugs*
Oh I think about you on and off various times. Like when I see the Dutch man at the audio meetings (I had a great time talking with his wife earlier this year). That's why you should update more often, because in spite of what you think, you're not boring ;)
The thing in New Orleans was insanity on the part of the U.S. government, and in the interim they haven't done a lot to correct it. That really bothers me.
Of course, when global warming gets even worse, coastal communities are in for trouble too. Like Florida...and California where I live.
And for the record, every time I type "global warming" I almost type "global warning" instead...the name they give to the supershows WWE puts on in Australia!
sila, you're an absolute doll, you really are. *SMISH* if there's anything i can do by way of a thank you, just let me know.
also, regarding the yahoo group thing. i've been watching it closely and man, they really just need to quit it. starting up that kind of wank again isn't going to be good for anyone. especially since the other side seem to be really hostile and bitchy when you're being very calm and polite. idiots.
Oh, don't worry about it, it's fine. It's not like I did much, I just copy-pasted something you wrote up. : P
I wanted to stay out of it, at first, aside from just giving my take on reviewing, but the negative approach had spread to the newbie and I just didn't want her to get the idea that everyone there was as negative. It's just bullshit, all of it.
Being angry by not reviewing writers who aren't reviewing because no one else is reviewing them...-does that still make sense? - is just a vicious circle that will never get broken if they keep that up.
i get what you mean. and i agree. though i have to be honest, after the last little kerfuffle, the whole thing kind of makes me roll my eyes. the argument on that list for reviewing is, well, laughable. no one owes anyone anything, and the sooner they realise that, the better. and like i said, you handled things very well. you were a lot more polite than i would have been - hell, the only reason i didn't stick my oar in this time was because i'd just be copying and pasting what i said before.
feedback isn't mandatory. i wish fandom would understand that.
I'm just waiting for someone to step up and challenge us, though. Granted, Abby isn't there any more, or at least not in the position to do anything, but then I've always suspected Abby of being a sockpuppet, really, so someone could still show up.
Indeed, not on either side. Though I do think writers not bothering to take a second to say 'thanks' is kind of lame. But in the end they're not required to, so expecting that is ridiculous.
I liked your drabbles a lot especially the second one. I can imagine Rob being scared of the storm and Sabu’s reaction was so typical for him. *grins*
The end of this story was great, especially the following line: “With all this noise." Another pause. "No one will hear us.” - I loved it! Sabu can be so nice if he wants to be.
After all the years, this pairing is still one of my favourites. Their own kind of romance is always touching me...
Aw, thank you! The thought of Rob scared shouldn't as amusing as it is, especially while dealing with Sabu at the same time. I'm happy to hear you think Sabu was in character, too. ^^
Sabu's nice is...odd. He's insulting, sometimes, or even a downright asshole, but something about it shows he cares. It's weird, but that's what I love about them.
Isn't it just? Their friendship is so awesome. I mean, they've known each other for 18+ years! And the relationship aspect just never stops interesting me. They're rude to each other and they shouldn't work, but somehow there's so much love there - hidden beneath insults or not - that they do work. *loves her OTP*
