Labyrinths

Pellinor expressed the intention of "popping out" to IKEA at lunchtime. I have today off work, but had to reluctantly decide to cancel my planned walk, since the back problem that made me cancel Walk the Wight in May has been recurring over the last few weeks - nowhere near as bad as in May, but I have a very strong need to ensure that it gets no ( Read more... )

I still haven't been to Ikea, because I fear it too much. But so I have heard.

THIS IS MY EXACT EXPERIENCE OF IKEA TOO.

Haven't been for many years, but when I lived in Cheshire I had a landlady for a while who used to go once a week to worship at the shrine. I moved out, fearing she would sacrifice me to her dark gods with a mysterious stabbing instrument bought surprisingly cheaply from one of the baskets.

Very wise. I felt like a level 1 adventurer who had failed to read the quest description and unwisely blundered into a level 20 dungeon. Everyone around me seemed to be coping excellently and were happily locating secret doors and acquiring loot. Presumably they have all been initiated in the cult and given the secret knowledge.

Fortunately, about 3 minutes after you left they opened up a new till at the end of the row. No-one else noticed, so I snuck over and got served very quickly. Followed by the chap who'd been in front of me in the previous queue, who hadn't noticed when I tried (briefly, and without persisting) to point out the new till to him.

LOL! Haven't been to IKEA for ages, but it is well known that they can be difficult to escape!!

Also, love the idea of accidental car parks! :D

I expect the carpark intended to be where it was. It was merely that I didn't intend to enter it at all, and especially not visit virtually all its levels.

Ah, the mysterious baskets of possibly useful things. I bought a little battery-operated one for gently frothing milk. I have no idea why this seemed an attractive idea.

It wouldn't be so bad if they condescended to give you any clue about what on earth the Thing was supposed to do. We saw some where we concluded that if we were right in our assumption about what it was, it might possibly be useful. However, there was always this fear that we would get it home and discover that it, despite appearances, it wasn't designed for that purpose at all, and would either be rubbish at it, or would cause visitors to fall over laughing when they saw us using a Whatever for an entirey wrong purpose.
