gah! its been a long day already and its not even 3pm! had to drive mom out to work so she could turn in paperwork to get the rest of the week off. she fell on Sunday and hurt her wrist and, after a few days of aching and swelling and bruising, we decided to go up to the ER and have it looked at. they said it was fractured and gave her the name of a specialist. so after we drove out to work to turn in paperwork and get that taken care of, we came back here and went to see the specialist. suffice it to say, mom is wearing the first cast she's ever had to wear in her life.
its purple!
enough of that. on with the meme... oh, by the way. its day 11

seriously? i wrote that?11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
hmmm. difficult question to answer. do i write in just one genre? i like to think that i don't stick with just one area of fiction when i write. i know what i like to read, but writing is a different thing for me. for me, sticking with one or two genres when writing really pigeon holes an author and stifles their creativity. the only way one can really expand upon their skills and enhance them is to push beyond all comfort zones and boundaries. write something that one might not personally like or agree with just to find out if it can be done. i firmly believe that nothing should be off limits to me, that i should constantly work toward honing my ability as best i can, no matter the topic or genre. its only something you need to do once, to see if it can be done. like it or hate it, you shouldn't put limits upon your own creativity.
i do my best at trying to incorporate all kinds of genre into one story. a little action, some romance, some mystery and thrills. erotica and plain smut. all of it falls under one umbrella and should be used hand in hand to fill the story, to make it blossom into the kind of thing that i'm really proud of having written. there are times when i write crack fic just for the shits and giggles that would bring about. but i don't think anything i've ever written hasn't had more than one genre tossed into it. and it all has had a plot. maybe not always the best of plots, because i know some of them were very loosely cobbled together. but there is always a plot involved in anything i write. even if its a one shot.
so i guess, no. i don't prefer certain genres. i like to stick it all together in one big blob and see what comes out in the end.
