If it weren't for Spock (who does look remarkably like his TOS counterpart), I almost wouldn't have recognized it either - heck, I almost didn't even recognize the Enterprise. :P

I don't think I made it through HBP more than once all the way through either. I remember actually liking it more than most seemed to on first read, but looking back on that, I think that was because I had somehow mentally separated out the teen romance plot out completely. ;) And when HBP was good, it was good. I want so, so much to like this movie.

I was just watching the latest HP trailer which I agree looks exciting. Also reminds me of something George Lucas joked about back when promoting TPM, he said that the success of the trailer was so good that they were just going to break up the movie into two minute spots.

I dunno if I think the Trek movie looks more SW. I'm a bit annoyed with the "sensual scenes" and that makes me think its trying to be a general science fiction movie then Trek.

Not SW, necessarily, more what Abrams wishes SW/ST were - but yes, it definitely looks more general sci-fi than Trek. If it was supposed to be just another sci-fi blockbuster, I'd probably be more impressed with the trailer. But it just didn't look like Trek to me. I'd love to be wrong, but Abrams hasn't given me a lot of hope. He apparently thinks original Trek had too much talking and not enough action (which in itself was a bizarre criticism to me - if any Trek got labeled with that I'd think it would be TNG). Yes, like any good sci-fi Trek does need some awesome explosions and alien battles, but without some of those talky/character moments like "Measure of a Man," it's just garden-variety sci-fi. Which we got with Nemesis, and look how that turned out.

Interesting point. While saying Kirk was a womanizing horndog is like saying water is wet, we didn't need to see him actually screwing to get ( ... )

Trek has always been relatively... chaste in comparison.

Yes, that's what gives me doubts, most of all, about this movie (though I have plenty of other complaints. :P) Sure, Kirk has a certain...reputation...but onscreen, it was never more than a passionate kiss or two, and as far as I'm concerned, that got the point across perfectly well. I'd like my ST without the hot and heavy stuff, thanks.

I just wish I didn't think I'm going to need an IV of Pepto Bismol (or tastier, Smirnoff Green Apple) to make it through the finished product. Sweet Valley Hogwarts? *SO* DNW.

Oh, so much DNW.

Icon high-five! :)

The only thing I'm remotely anticipating on the romance side of things is seeing whether H/G fares better than its canon depiction, or crashes and burns just as spectacularly. Even so, I suspect I'm going to be practically inhaling popcorn during those scenes to keep my focus off the content.

I'm actually planning not to see this in the theater, unless someone insists on dragging me there (unlikely). Maybe I'll rent it on Netflix.

*hugs you*

You're right, Janet's not worth it. ♥ Too bad it's easier said than done, eh?

Hope you feel better, btw.

I read on a website that in one of the released scenes online, Uhura makes a joke about sex with farm animals at Kirk's expense.

Not that I'm an expert, but THAT'S NOT TREK.

o_O

I'll try to be fair and wait and judge it in context, but initial gut reaction: BZUH?

Part of me just imagines Roddenberry looking down at all this and *facepalm*ing.
