-- **Hugs** out there to anyone who needs them. Perhaps needless to say I've been wrapped up in a lot of my own personal drama lately, but I'm certainly far from the only one with issues going on

Not SW, necessarily, more what Abrams wishes SW/ST were - but yes, it definitely looks more general sci-fi than Trek. If it was supposed to be just another sci-fi blockbuster, I'd probably be more impressed with the trailer. But it just didn't look like Trek to me. I'd love to be wrong, but Abrams hasn't given me a lot of hope. He apparently thinks original Trek had too much talking and not enough action (which in itself was a bizarre criticism to me - if any Trek got labeled with that I'd think it would be TNG). Yes, like any good sci-fi Trek does need some awesome explosions and alien battles, but without some of those talky/character moments like "Measure of a Man," it's just garden-variety sci-fi. Which we got with Nemesis, and look how that turned out.
I'm a bit annoyed with the "sensual scenes" and that makes me think its trying to be a general science fiction movie then Trek.
Interesting point. While saying Kirk was a womanizing horndog is like saying water is wet, we didn't need to see him actually screwing to get that message. Come to think of it, the most explicit sex I remember in a Trek film was from Nemesis, and I remember it feeling kind of off there too. In certain franchises like Farscape the occasional sex scene's par for the course, but Trek has always been relatively... chaste in comparison.

Yes, that's what gives me doubts, most of all, about this movie (though I have plenty of other complaints. :P) Sure, Kirk has a certain...reputation...but onscreen, it was never more than a passionate kiss or two, and as far as I'm concerned, that got the point across perfectly well. I'd like my ST without the hot and heavy stuff, thanks.
