[spn] It's Only Dark (Dean/Cas)

Mar 06, 2012 19:14

It's Only Dark
SPN, R, Dean/Cas, 3,800 words
Summary: It all ends anyway, just not the way it was supposed to. Future fic, circa 2020.
Notes: Title and (some) inspiration from this awesome song by Timber Timbre.

It all happened anyway. Not the apocalypse as the Bible or God or some hallucinating Greek described it, but it happened all the same. )

spn, spn:dean/castiel

He has hope but it's for the corn to grow tall, for tomatoes red and ripe, for a horse that stays sound and for Cas to make it home every night.

I want to wear this like a blanket and feed it biscuits 'cause there's so much in it of where they are and how they got there without going through every single minute, it's just there. I think I said achy and lovely already.

Also calls him a biscuit-eater and pets his bony hound head, I dunno why but I love it a lot for some reason.

Uncaffeinated comment is uncaffeinated. <3

Wearing it like a blanket and feeding it biscuits sounds like a pretty crumb-filled evening. Sticky if there's jam.

I totally think Dean was the sort of kid (when no one was looking) who cried while watching Sounder or Where the Red Fern Grows, even though he never had a dog (or maybe because he never had a dog), though I can't remember now if the dog dies at the end of The Biscuit Eater. Uh.

Clearly, I should just say THANK YOU <33

I just loved this to itty bitty bits. You did such a skillful job weaving Dean and Cas into this mutated 2014! future, staying true to their core personas while showing their evolution as characters over the years. (And I simply adored Dog- what a little rebel! He was a perfect addition to their little family.) This is a fic that'll stay with me for a long time.

Ah, thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it and that you liked Dog. He wasn't meant to be there, he just showed up, which I guess is how it happened in the story, too, then I just liked him a lot. :)

Thank you!

This was like the definition of comfort. I just feel better after reading it. Which is kind of weird considering the bittersweet quality to all of it. But it's like after everything they've found a way to be quietly happy. And I think part of the reason Dean spends most of his time at their home is that he's afraid to acknowledge the fact that despite everything, he is happy. I feel like I could read this verse forever.

I thought of this while brushing out my own Pattycakes (who is not even remotely a Morgan, hah) and it was just Dean brushing a horse post-everything and Sam was gone but things were okay and I was like, I would read that. So I'm really glad it works for you. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
