It's Only Dark

Summary: It all ends anyway, just not the way it was supposed to. Future fic, circa 2020.
Notes: Title and (some) inspiration from this awesome song by Timber Timbre.

( It all happened anyway. Not the apocalypse as the Bible or God or some hallucinating Greek described it, but it happened all the same. )

I might have to start stalking you... a simple story, packed with the tiny details and truths that make it rich and deep. I appreciate that this post-apocalytic life has hope at its core.

Thanks so much, I'm really glad you liked it! I love apocalyptic fic, too, but I didn't want it to be too depressing. The McCarthy book Dean can't finish really will depress the fuck out of a person. :)

A part of me feel a bit sad about Sam, because a big part of my mindset about Dean is that he'll never quite be okay without Sam, but the idea of Dean being able to eventually accept Sam dying a natural (admittedly non-Pestilence plague-induced) death is about the best that could happen if they got separated permanently. And Sam is probably in Heaven, curled up with Jess, and his parents, while Dean still has Cas with him.

It's hard to imagine him okay without Sam, yeah. Even now when I rewatch, I am amazed that he went along with the Sam-down-the-hole-with-Lucifer plan. :( But I figure at some point he can't take or fight anymore and so he just ends up making biscuits at the end of the world. :)
