Even ghosts get tired and go home (4/?)

Chapter 4: Don't say anything to me
[ 1]-[ 2]-[ 3]-[ 4]-[ 5]- [6]-[ 7]-[ 8]-[ 9]-[ 10]-[ 11] - [12]- [13]

It had gone another two weeks, Sungmin had not yet once called Donghae. Why would he? It's not like they were friends or ever was, Donghae hadn't tried to talk to Sungmin ever since that time and neither had Sungmin made any attempts at being friends. He knew that wasn't an option. But fortunately Donghae stopped with the glaring, he would notice how his eyes sometimes would wander over his arms which he still covered in long sleeves, still fresh wounds constantly, still Sungmin wouldn't open up to this stranger.

It was 10pm and he was lying on the couch as usual with a bowl of cereal on his stomach and a cooking show on TV. An evening spent like every other evening. That was until his phone started buzzing and with a sigh he pulled it up from out of his pocket and answered it. Not checking caller ID.

"Yeah it's Sungmin," at first all he could here was static, a buzzing sound coming in waves like a bass, then he heard music and people chattering, then he heard someone breathing.

"It's Donghae," Quickly he sat up, the bowl in one hand and his phone in the other. Donghae? Lee Donghae? Why on earth did Lee Donghae call him on a Saturday night? It took him a good time before he answered, he was busy speculating on Donghae's motives to call him.

"Yeah?" What was he supposed to say? They weren't friends, they were nothing but classmates really and Sungmin was quite happy about that arrangement.

"What are you doing?" And Sungmin exhaled a little, Donghae was drunk. Obviously. His words were slurry and his voice sounded dazed off.

"Nothing," what did he want? Did he want to check in on him now? Of all times he decides to call Sungmin when drunk and on a party?

"You should come to this party, it's fucking fun and all over the green dorm buildings... you know the ones close to the main building," he was inviting him to a party? Sungmin felt his mouth dry up a bit as he glanced down at his clothes. He was wearing a pair of soccer shorts and a dirty tank top, he really should stay in, though it had been a while since he went out... Maybe he should? Should he? For maybe an entire minute Sungmin didn't say anything, just small 'eh's' and hums left his lips.

"Give me a little time... I need to get dressed," it was almost obvious that Donghae was smiling over the phone line, shouting a little before he hung up, leaving Sungmin confounded and staring at the phone where Donghae's name was blinking until the screen went black. It had gone two weeks since they last spoke. Donghae didn't even greet him in school so why now? Why a party? And what should he wear? Or should he even go at all? It's not like he had any obligations to go. Not to Donghae of all people at least.

He scurried around the small apartment and tried to find something clean and neat to put on, eventually he settled on a black grandpa-sweater and a pair of black jeans. Still contemplating on whether to go or not he found himself staring at the hallway mirror, running his fingers through his hair, which he had not bothered to do anything with. Yes, this look would have to do, who was he dressing up for anyway? It's not like he was hoping to score someone to spend the night with.

But he decided to go, why not? It could be fun, he could maybe talk to some people at the party. The air was still rather chilly, even though April had passed and May was starting, he'd like to think that it was cold because Kyuhyun was missing of the earth, but that was just him being superstitious. From afar he could hear the pounding of the music and the loud chattering of the people inside the dorm building. With anxious and nervous steps he walked up to the outer door, pushing it open only to be welcomed by people falling into him, smoke everywhere and screeching music, the bass beating into his heart.

And he sighed as he waltzed through the corridors, peaking into open doors trying to find a friend or at least a familiar face. Just someone he could talk to, Yesung had been gone for a couple of days on a school trip with his classmates, celebrating the almost finished school time for him, so Sungmin had been rather lonesome. He knew he needed to find someone else to spend his days with after Yesung graduated. He stepped over people making out on the floor and empty liquor bottles until he heard his name being called. Looking up only to meet Donghae's eyes just a couple of feet ahead.

Donghae stumbled up to him and wrapped an arm around his neck, pushing an opened can of beer into his hand. He was talking to someone, Sungmin couldn't bother with it except looking at the brown haired kid next to him. Why was he so buddy-buddy all of a sudden?

"You came!" Donghae was grinning and looked at Sungmin, pulling him away from his train of thoughts. A weak smile spreading on his mouth as he nodded carefully, taking a small sip of the beverage in his hand. Meeting Donghae's gaze for a blink of a second before turning his focus back to stare at the people around them.

Throughout the night Donghae hardly left his side, tugging him along, stealing his cigarettes, providing him with alcohol, laughing with him, dancing with him, he treated him like they were the best of friends. They even hung out with some of Donghae's friends from school, aka Hyukjae's old friends, something making Sungmin feel less then comfortable where he stood stupidly. Donghae's arm around his or Donghae's hand around his wrist. Always Donghae holding onto Sungmin and before he knew it he was shit faced drunk, walking through the campus in a large crowd of Donghae's friends, at 4am heading back to Donghae's dorm.

Of all people he would be hanging out with he ended up with Lee Donghae?
Of all the people he would go home to he was going home to Lee Donghae. But the weirdest part wasn't the fact that he was going home to him, but that he was excited about it.
That he had a nice evening, smiling most of the time. Sungmin hadn't felt this carefree and happy in months. There was something about Donghae that made everything easy, it was nice to talk to him, he was easy going and even his friends were nice.

Once at Donghae's place they were all spread out over the couch and the floor, drinking even more, someone busted out weed and they were all getting high and laughing together. They were six people in the room, he learned the name of some of his friends. There was this rather small, giggly boy called Ryeowook, a Chinese exchange student called Hangeng and his best friend Zhou mi, another one guy called Shindong who in Sungmin's eyes sort of had the role of a clown and then himself and Donghae. So this was the friends of Heechul and Hyukjae, apparently Hangeng was the one who had been closest to Heechul, he would mention him occasionally with his broken Korean and it would make Sungmin's heart drop. But not once did they play accusation with him and not once did they mention Kyuhyun or the Valentine incidents. All to Sungmin's benefit.

As time passed, more and more people left until the only ones left were he and Donghae, the clock was closing in at 6am and Sungmin was ready to excuse himself and leave, watching Donghae lying almost passed out on the couch. The second he stood up he was stopped by Donghae's words, telling him to spend the night. Confused he raised his brows, unsure on what to do next.

"Really?" Was all he could say, keeping his eyes on Donghae's face as he nodded lazily, grunting while getting up on his feet, his eyes glazed and half-shut, a somber look on his face as he smiled, grabbing Sungmin's wrist and pulling him to the bedroom.

"I have a king size so you can just grab the extra duvet from under the bed," he said softly, starting to unzip his pants the second they passed over the door frame, his hands fumbling a little and his actions slowed down incredibly from his intoxication before he stumbled onto the bed with a 'oops' and a sigh. Sungmin just nodded as he reached under the bed to grab the cover, still slightly hesitant to Donghae's sudden friendliness.

Too wasted to care he slipped out of his jeans and stood silent for a while at the edge of the bed, blinking slowly and swaying slightly in his stance, glancing up only to find Donghae's eyes wandering across his body.

"Your legs too?" he was mumbling and working his hardest to focus his gaze into Sungmin's eyes. He didn't have to specify what he was referring too, Sungmin knew exactly what he was talking about and he pulled his shirt down a little, climbing onto the bed and burying himself in the covers. Not saying a word he just closed his eyes, pretending that he didn't hear what he said.

"You shouldn't cut yourself, Sungmin... You really shouldn't," Donghae sighed and turned to his side, mumbling a few more words inaudible for Sungmin where he lied. Throwing a glance at Donghae's figure next to him, his thoughts keeping him awake for quite a long time. Why did Donghae invite him earlier that night to the party? What brought him to actually think that Sungmin was the person to call and to bring home? What made him ask Sungmin to stay the night? Why was he lying in bed next to Lee Donghae? He was dying to know, curious to no end, hopeful to maybe get a good answer the next day. Eventually he let Donghae's soft and heavy breathing lullaby him before passing out. In Lee Donghae's bed. Of all places he could end up he ended up in Lee Donghae's bed.

AAAaaAAAAnd it's kicking off for realsies now my pretties, I still don't have a beta and I am bad at beta:ing my own stuff, so I'm sorry for any typos or grammar errors ;A; as I already stated sometime earlier there is a lot of time skipping because well the focus is on the events changing Donghae & Sungmin's dynamics and relationships. I mean who would wanan read 3-4 chapters about basically the same thing over and over?
