Who You Gonna Read? (Something of a Love Letter to Halloween Lit)

Friday night we ducked over to Disneyland's California Adventure to do their trick or treat thing with Claire, our neighbors, and their kids, which was loads of fun. Claire is very funny these days. She wasn't so much into the candy as she was going on the rides, the faster the better.  We spun around on the Ladybug ride (think: teacups witha A Bug ( Read more... )

Halloween isn't Halloween without the Rocky Horror Picture Show and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

I always used to get sad when Sally cries, "You didn't tell me you were going to kill it!"

If you haven't read Despereaux to Claire, it would make a good Halloween book for her. Slightly creepy (there's a dungeon and rats and a girl with cauliflower ears) and suspenseful but tons of fun. I'm loving it!

One down, one I've surprisingly never seen in it's entirety.

I have read Desperaux actually, back when I was teaching. You like it, huh? I thought it was fun, light reading. Not my particular thing, but enjoyable enough. I don't remember anything particularly Halloweeny, though.

You've never seen Rocky Horror? Oh, darling, you don't know what you're missing. I'm going to see a college production of it on Halloween weekend. It will suffice for my fix this holiday season.

I freaking LOVE Despereaux--but that is because one of my personalities is a seven year old child. It's not particularly Halloweeny, but I feel like it's suspenseful enough to give a little one seasonal goosebumps without scaring the living piss out of her. :)

I try to watch Nightmare Before Christmas every October.

Excellent call.

BTW, if you are ever out on the West Coast in the fall/winter, I highly recommend checking out Disney's the Haunted Mansion when it's set up in Nightmare Before Christmas mode...

I also suggest some Poe, like Tell-tale Heart or Fall of the House of Usher.

Ah, those would definitely hit the spot.

BTW, I listened to the Lurking Fear last week. Excellent stuff!
