Fandom overload...

Aug 31, 2005 15:35

I have way too many fandoms*. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It fits my 'jack-of-all-trades master-of-a-few' personality. Sometimes it's tough to manage and keep up with them all, especially in the contect of a massive con.

* I use the word 'fandom' like the word 'genre', but with the connotation of extreme interest

You know I used to love Christian fiction - I think some of it is still pretty decent, but most of it (I think) has turned into "fluff". I don't like "fluff". Most books that would appeal to most women have a very boring and predictable storyline. And everyone always gets saved in the end! Yayyyy!!! *gags* Unless I purposely pick up a fantasy novel, I like the novels I read to be realistic - not syrupy sweet, everything's sunshine and daisies because I'm a Christian crap. You know? I have to agree with you about Perreti though. Great imagination! I loved the first few books of The Left Behind Series, but it all got old pretty fast. They lost me before I got to book 6, but I read the entire series anyway, just because I like to finish things I start. Ok. This turned into a rant. Sorry. :(

Of the ones you have listed, I'd put on my list: Christ, Buffy/Angel, Goth, Star Trek TNG, LoTR, HARRY POTTER (!), and I'd add Camelot/Arthurian/Celtic legends, Charmed & Ghost Hunting.

I mainly like the "edgier" Christian fiction, like Peretti, Beale, even C.S. Lewis (though I could not get into his space trilogy).

Ooo, Arthurian legends are always interesting. I'm particulary intrigued by Merlin. Though, by background, I guess I am more interested in the samurai mythos :)

I was into Charmed while Shannon Dougherty was on. But it lost me near the end.

Ghost hunting??? I know of a chalet in Gatlinburg, TN that may interest you :-)

I would venture to put up my "fandoms" as well, yet it seems that you've gotten it down for me already

You like Kenshin? Really? I never would have guessed!

Oh come on, he has a background based on it.

Hence the sarcasm.

HAHAHA :) (yeah, I caught the sarcasm the first time through :) )

I see Kenshin as a good example of a recovering sinner. Haunted a little by the past yet found a new life and a new way. The cross-shaped scar adds to the symbology (not to mention the Christian arc in the anime series).
