My friends call this the most boring, bloody awful, meaningless piece of crap in the world. They suffered through it when I told them I wanted to see it at the cinemas and then railed at me for it afterwards
( Read more... )
My dearest also anounced that 2046 is the most boring film in the world, good job we were watching it at home so he just waked away, but really we rearly agree on our choice of film.. ;(
Me? I think it is very romantic.. Masterpiece, reminds somehow of "Blade runner" as well, Kar Wai Wong wanted it to be that way, didn't he?
I used to have a joke: "We can't be friends unless you liked Moulin Rouge and Lord of the Rings". That was pretty easy because most people I knew liked those movies. I knew quite early in the piece that I couldn't do that with either 2046 of House of Flying Daggers since it received so much knocking. :)
Have you seen House of Flying Daggers? It's another of my favourite Unloved Movies and I bore everyone to death because I MUST tell everyone that I went to the Bamboo Sea in July - which was where the film was filmed and that I'm so proud of myself because it's not in any English guidebook so I found it by googling:
"House of flying daggers, sichuan, bamboo forest". :)
As mentioned to ginger below - I also went to the Goldfinch Restaurant where they filmed 2046 and In the mood for love :D
I have seen "House of the Flying Daggers". I like it and it has the most beutiful scenes - i think honestly none of the western films can come close to the beauty of the asian ones. Particular scene "dancing with sleeves" is just out of this world, and the one with the snow (i have a thing for snow, i have snow deprivation in UK). And Takeshi Kaneshiro is incredibly nice looking, i guess i have a thing for asian men as well ;)
Saying that , the film lost me during the fight scene , it just lasted too long. If i to choose between 2046 and "House...", i will choose 2046.
You know, in 2046, i didn't realise that it was Takuya Kimura's voice at the start of the film, i thought it was Tony Leung Chiu Wai's, the voice is very rich and velvety indeed..
Well, I was in Hong Kong when they released the film and I went with my significant one to watch it. However there was some problem and the movie was without soundtrack... no music at all! We told the guy at the theatre (well, I didn't move from my seat, I was glued to it, but he did) that there was not music and a WKW film always have music and the guy told us that movie was that way... Even without the magnificent music 2046 has, I loved the movie that first time! He didn't like it too much but he had an excuse... he saw the movie without soundtrack ;) Anyway, I watched it twice here with my friends when it got released as well (they liked it, but I think I like it more) and got the dvd in the moment it got released (the HK special edition, that I think it's the best). The movie and its music are an incredible piece of beauty that I find hard to describe, honestly, and Takuya Kimura is just fantastic there... I don't get tired of listening to his voice at the beginning, and watching him in every second of his screen time. I haven't
( ... )
Oh I can't believe that there was no music! Even my friends who hated it said that the only thing that redeemed it was that the music was great. I was in Hong Kong when it opened as well. It's the sort of movie that Chinese people always say: "Foreigners like this kind of movie, not us" :)
Then I went with a couple of friends (the only ones who DID like it) to the Goldfinch Restaurant in Causeway Bay which is where they filmed part of In the Mood for Love and also the scenes in 2046 where Faye and Tony have dinner together
( ... )
I wish that too. Faye and Takuya story is so lovely!!!
I wanted to see the movie so badly because of Takuya, I already knew he was in it and had to see it!! Although I also like WKW movies, so I would have gone to see it eventually... I watched it three time in the big screen because it was the first time I was able to see Takuya in a movie in a theatre! Although I'm pretty sure isn't going to be the last one... I heard he will be in a the third movie of the trilogy about samurais from the director of Twilight Samurai (that is the first movie) and Hidden Blade (the second). Takuya will play a blind samurai for what I've read. Will be released at the end of 2006... too much to wait!
Meep they're not my icons! I couldn't make an icon to save my life unfortunately! A large number belong to ginger :) And as to the others .... they're in the file name .... I wish I could make icons but then I might never leave the house.
Nice! I always thought that his relationship with her was interesting and almost as if he was about to open up with her in a way that he was unable to do with other women. But she was unavailable. He had such a life of near misses.
Normally I would totally have been hoping that Tony Leung's character and Faye got together since they were so fabulous in Chungking Express, unfortunately Kimura was in this one and well ... I frankly lust after him so it was hard to be impartial.
I agree with you that I think that Chow's relationship with the "Faye Present" character is very interesting. The Zhang Zi Yi relationship is all about sex, but his relationship with Jing Wen is quite friendly and intellectual. I think he is falling in love with her which is why he waits outside in the rain for her.
After he thinks about it, he realises why the 'Android' doesn't reply. I always liked his line: "Love is all a matter of timing, it's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late ....If I'd lived in another time or place, my story might have had a very different ending."
So true ..... I'm so glad that Jing Wen and her Japanese beau got a happy ending in 2046 though. They were the only ones who did :)
Thanks so much for that. I don't speak Japanese at all so I totally wish you'd been around when it took me 300 years to transcribe that tiny passage!! :)

I hope you don't mind if I correct your Japanese sentences...
And thanks for the pics and music. :)
