[OOC: After this. ♥]

Hello, journal network!

I'm writing this because I met a wonderful girl today (Hello, Ami!) and she had the brilliant idea of starting up a study group here in Chicago. I think it's an excellent idea, particularly for those who are having a difficult time being away from their schools and so forth. Education is essential ( Read more... )

Well, that's a breath of fresh air on the journal network! There's very little I can disagree with here.

I'm not a Wanderer, nor have I had my education stalled by coming to Chicago (well, not drastically, though transferring schools is a bitch and a half, if you'll excuse my language). However I'd be more than happy to help anyone else out with their education, if it's something I can teach. I've already got a tutoring session set up with another friend of mine; I'm sure I can fit one more into my schedule, if anyone's interested. :)

Thank you so much! I'm very grateful that you responded, and that you're willing to help.

I would absolutely be interested in a tutoring session. I feel rather lost without a consistent educational schedule. The school I previously attended had a rather unique class system, I'm afraid, and it doesn't translate well to the schools I've found here in Chicago. I firmly believe I will find a way, however, and I'm willing to work very hard to find that way. :)

I'm most interested in mathematics and history, though a conversation with my new friend helped me realize I should pay more attention to the sciences, as well. So, help with any of those would be brilliant.

I will stop rambling at you now. I'm so sorry. Again, I cannot stress how much I appreciate your reply. I hope to speak with you soon!

Sincerely,
Hermione

Anytime I see anyone actually wanting to keep up with their education, well, I gotta say something. :P

How was the class system set up? Any way we could emulate it here with any modicum of success? Outside the school system of Chicago, of course. While I do value the education system of our country a great deal, I also understand that it doesn't work for everyone or everythingI'm not terribly up on history, though I'm fairly confident I could teach it at a high school level. Mathematics I could go a little farther past, and science -- depending on the science, of course, and how in-depth you'd want to go -- I can definitely do. (I'm a psych student & TA at the university right now, so anything in psychology is my forte ( ... )

I attended a private school in Scotland, actually. The classes were mostly environmentally-oriented (based on a smaller community) and I took the majority of my more common, worldly-based classes in the summer, and through mail. I seem to be 'up-to' in my age group (I'm 18), but I'd really like to be better prepared.

I'm used to a typical school day of 9 hours, with one class that's double marked each day. I'm rather comfortable with long periods of study. A great deal of our work was action-based, though I'm a more visual learner, I've found. Secondarily, auditory learning works rather well for me.

I find psychology to be absolutely fascinating, actually. I've done a bit of studying in the subject, though mostly based on one individual. I'd be thrilled to learn more of absolutely anything, I admit. Also, the more in-depth, the better ( ... )
