My brother the PhD in biology (virology, but who's keeping track when you're wasted?) tells me that the sure-fire way to avoid a hangover is to eat a banana and drink a semi-large quantity of water before retiring for the evening. The banana, because alcohol blocks potassium uptake. And the water, because alcohol dehydrates you.
