Favorite Underrepresented Muppet?

I'm sort of in an odd mood, so here's an odd sort of question.

Everyone thinks of a particular muppet when they think of Jim Henson. Generally, it's someone like Kermit, Miss Piggy, Oscar the Grouch, or Bert (or Ernie). ...but most of us who grew up with them have a particular oddball favorite. Perhaps it's the Honkers from Sesame Street. ( Read more... )

I was always crazy about Rowlf, more so when I realized his hands couldn't see the piano. But he's scarcely underloved.

Can I take sketch monsters? I watched the Muppet show as a kid and the angry monster with eyelashes and the yellow pear-head in the "Hugga Wugga / You Are My Sunshine" sketch stuck with me. I was so happy when it was on the first season disc, because I can stop having people look at me funny when I explain it.

I would have to go with the purple two-headed monster from Sesame Street for my favorite recurring character(s). He/they didn't even speak more than a word or two of English at a time, but I understood something.

Rowlf is perhaps my favorite low-key character, but as I said, I'm in an odd mood today, which is why I went with Lew and Teeth.

I only vaguely remember the "Hugga Wugga" monsters, but the two-headed guy(s) was/were great. :)

Both are great, to be sure, but were either really underrepresented? I mean, Oscar was pretty central on Sesame Street, and Animal was in pretty much all of the movies and such....

I was looking for stuff like The Salzburg Sauerkraut Singers or Crazy Harry. :)

I see your point. However I used to work for Public Television and did children's out reach and everybody was about Elmo and Zoey and Big Bird. So me, I stuck to Oscar and Animal.

How about Snuffelupagus? Or even Oscar's Mom? She was on a few times. Oh what that good!! And the retelling of "Cinderella" as "Grochella"? BRilliant!!!

I'd forgotten about Oscar's Mom. She was the bomb. :)

The Janice "dumb comment" gag was great. I'd half-forgotten that. Damn. I may need to pull out some of these movies from our DVD shelf, now.

I'd forgotten Sweetums, actually. Or rather, his name.

As to Sam, "You are all weirdos!"

Sam the Eagle always reminded me of Sam Donaldson, which I doubt is a coincidence. Also, see here: http://asmallvictory.net/archives/006028.html. :)

Aw... you had to go ruining my nostalgia-fest by reminding me that the Mouse ate the muppets. :)
