I just... I can't even.... *sighs* I'm glad this uninspring trilogy is over and someone else might be able to present a more heroic Batman, complete with Gotham mythos and cast of mentally unbalanced villains. If I want to see a realistic hero, I'll check the news for articles about firemen, police, doctors, soldiers and occasional average citizen, thnx.
You know, I thought the film was a wretched bore for a whole bunch of totally different reasons, but you've sold your criticism very well. None of these points occurred to me, but you are correct on every one of them.
My objections were plot-based and common sense-based, and I didn't even consider it deeply enough to notice how poor the characterisation was. It's like the upbeat, friendly and apologetic Sherlock Holmes that is apparently going to be seen in CBS's upcoming Elementary (I hope I'm wrong) - you can do your own take on iconic characters, but when you deviate that much from the template, you shouldn't call them by that name anymore. Batman can be many, many things, but he should never be as incompetent as he was in this movie.
Well, you know I'm no film expert, but even I noticed the abrupt choppy cuts, the irregular narrative sequence, how incredibly rushed some elements were and the plot.... *winces* There were competing plots instead of true subplots. Then there was Blake playing the everyman role even though Batman is the everyman hero (relative to the JLA cast). It made Batman superfluous in his own movie. It was probably meant to be some meta on how Gotham no longer needed Batman but it wound up being more like, "Why are you even trying to make a Batman movie if it's not the message you want to convey?" Like you say, when you drift to far from the source
