Would You Prefer A Caper Or A Heist?

Dec 14, 2008 00:37

Simon Bisson wrote an interesting post about his perspective on caper films and TV shows here: http://sbisson.livejournal.com/895505.html (go read it - I don't want to spoil his marvelous idea) reminding me how much I love caper films. That, in turn, made me wonder what caper/heist movies ( Read more... )

oh, i absolutely recommend kelly's heroes. it was one of those films i saw occasionally on television back when the non-network stations showed a lot of movies (and old syndicated shows). donald sutherland's performance alone is worth the time to watch the movie.

i think "snatch" is a caper film.

I think you're right. And I've seen it. Twice, IIRC.

As I responded to the original: two Alec Guiness movies not to be missed, "The Lavendar Hill Mob" and the pure archetype of the caper gone wrong movie, "The Ladykillers" ... do NOT see the recent remakes, as they are fecal. See the originals. The black-and-white will not scar your mind as you are a grownup and can handle the confusion.

Dude, I'm (calculates in head) 38. I love b&w movies. Please do not assume I am a run-of-the-mill watcher of films.

Man, I miss Danny Kaye movies playing the public channels on a gloomy Saturday afternoon.

Precisely the opposite of assuming you were run of the mill. More a case of contempt for the reasoning of the people who remade the films because nobody wants to see black and white.

I enjoyed Entrapment. I think that's a caper movie.

Wow! Now there's my next career move! Truth be told, it's kind of what i do NOW!

What about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) a remake of Bedtime Story (1964)?

Not sure if that really counts as it's sort of on the borderline (and btw, they're remaking it in 2010).

Huh, I've never seen Bedtime Story, although I found Dirty Rotten Scoundrels fairly amusing... I might enjoy the original more. Thanks!
