Muhammed vult?

Protesters demand execution of 'blasphemy' teacher.

Why does it seem that this is the overly-zealous Muslim reaction to everything*? Cartoon depicting Muhammad appears in a paper several thousand miles away? "KILL THEM!" A schoolteacher names a teddy bear 'Muhammad'? "KILL HER!" A bowl of milk was spilled? "CALL THE FIRING SQUAD!"

It could be that many of these protesters are seeing more the word "British" rather than "heathen". It's the mob rule seeking revenge perhaps for the wrongs perpetrated by the British in other Muslim countries.

Quite possibly; it's also possible that, quite frankly, they're taking any excuse to flip out because things are so sensitive that any perceived slight is a big deal, and things that aren't even meant to be slights are seen as such.

But that's not really a good excuse for calling for the death of a woman because of a stuffed toy. It sounds like the kind of thing the Inquisition would have done to perceived Cathars or somesuch.

Yeah, it was a male pupil, but I think even the Crazy Zealots draw the line at imprisoning and calling for the execution of a young boy, so, y'know, chuck the adult in in his stead.

So stupid. This is all so, so stupid.

Yeah, if I were one of the child's parents I'd have left the fucking country by now.

I wonder if it would have been better if they'd had a stuffed toy named Jesus and one named, I dunno, Yahweh, or perhaps Moses? I mean, the school is called Unity. Way to unify...

Fuck's sake. He's the prophet but they're all treating him like Allah himself. I don't know when they decided it was blasphemous to draw the prophet or name things after him (though now one could argue it's such a common name that it's watered down enough to not matter) - probably just a few hundred years ago but ffs... They need to get a grip. Esp. as he wasn't infallible or anything - I mean there's that story about the bit he got asked to retract be Gabriel because he was tricked by Satan (allegedly). You don't see people getting deported for naming their cat Jesus...

Do you think their reaction would be different if the teacher in question had been male?

I see what you're getting at, but no, in this case I don't, I think it's because she's not Muslim, perhaps because she's British and the British aren't very liked in that part of the world right now. I think right now it's more a case of dreaded white infidel than evil, stinking woman. That probably makes it worse, but at this point I think anything will set that lot off.

Yeah, that is what I think but I just am not sure what to think about it all. I am sure the fact that she is female is probably making it all a lot worse but I think being British is enough to condemn someone. Gosh, it is so scary. :(

There's just such immense tension right now, especially between the UK and US and the Muslim world and it seems that...well, I think of that lot as the Muslim/Sudanese equivalent of the BNP or the Bible Bashers in the US; they're just insane freaks who will take any excuse to flip out and bully people and have no concept of right or wrong, seriously lack the faculties of reason and are basically shit-weasels.

Sadly it seems this country is RUN by those people. Same goes for the US, although thanks to *gag* democracy, they don't have full power and church and state are - legislature wise, at least - kept separate.

Give a religious loon power and watch him attempt to kill a woman for naming a teddy bear the wrong name. God, that's depressing.

And that poor woman - best of luck to her. If they actually take this execution thing in any serious way I think I might explode or just call 'shenanigans' on the whole human race, cause this is beyond stupid.
