Kirk left sickbay with a dark look on his face. Someone had given Emma drugs. Someone put a woman in a god damn coma because they gave her drugs without thinking about it. What had Bones told him?

Emma?

You'd better tell him. Now.

"Sir - I was just on my way to talk to her when I got your comm. Apparently there was some sort of incident between her and Lieutenant Alexander a week ago, and late last night I found him in a rec room, drunk. He said some things that kind of scared me, to be honest. It sounded like he should be in the brig, or thought he should be in the brig, but he wouldn't say anything else. I really had no choice but to put him there. I only just found it was Emma and when it happened. I wanted to talk to her and try to find out what happened."

Kirk stared at Anna in absolute surprise as his comm started to chirp. Fuck, this just got more complicated. Kirk closed his eyes, then held up a finger and thumbed the communicator from his belt. He flicked it open from his belt and got his next shock.

"Sickbay." He told Anna quickly, not even pausing for a moment as he headed out the door.

Anna took both her own PADD and the other one from where she'd set them down on the table and hurried after the Captain.

"Sorry to spring that on you, Sir," she said as they walked. "I would have notified you about Lieutenant Alexander as soon as I talked to Emma. He's only been in the brig five hours now. I don't understand it; this isn't like him at all."

"I'm going to have to put you in charge of Alexander." Kirk said, thinking quickly as they power-walked down the corridor. He just had too much else to deal with right now. "And someone else in charge of his review." Ephram would be good for something like this... or maybe the Admiral would actually be better.

Note to self, talk to Pike. He thought quickly.

When his comm chirped again, Kirk had to bite back an unhappy sound. He flipped it open, and nearly stopped in his tracks. "...holy fuck." He whispered. It was a reading from the bridge.

Why NOW? He rubbed his brow, and kept on walking towards Bones' office.

"Is there something else wrong?" Anna asked with a look at the Captain as he flipped his communicator closed.

"We might be getting contact from below." Kirk said quickly, quietly. "The bridge is handling it." Nyota, I hope you're up there...

Despite all of the craziness that had taken place in the last few hours, Anna actually smiled. "That's what we're out here for, isn't it?"

They had arrived at Sickbay. Anna followed the Captain in.
