Proper Ending

"That's all the must-see stuff, right?" Kouichi asked, looking over the battered location map.

"Uh-huh," Tsuyoshi replied half-heartedly, still peering into the telescope.

Kouichi bent down too, trying to catch a look through the apparatus. "I thought the coin was spent."

"I put in another one," Tsuyoshi said, not giving up his spot in order to not-so-obviously sniff Kouichi's new skin lotion.

The scent regrettably moved away as Kouichi walked off to the other end of the telescope, and proceeded to block the lens with his grinning face.

Tsuyoshi laughed. "You're too close! It's all black."

Kouichi obligingly drew back, and promptly ouch-ed as he knocked the back of his head on the glass windows, earning his partner's snicker.

Kouichi removed himself and settled with observing from the windows. "It's getting dark," he commented.

Tsuyoshi straightened and looked around. The tightly packed crowd seemed to thin down a little in favor of dinner. They too should get back to the dorm soon if they wanted to avoid the other guys making a big fuss over this 'little date'.

"You haven't been to the Tokyo Tower?" Taichi asked in surprise. "You should! Leader, how about taking them there on the next off day?"

"Noooo!" Nagase rushed to intervene. "The best way to visit Tokyo Tower is on a romantic date, not a field trip."

Matsuoka threw him a suspicious look. "Since when do you read shoujo manga?"

"Anyway, they will have to know the place first," Taichi said, "before any date can be planned."

"How about going there for a Toki-Kin special?" Tsuyoshi suggested. He kind of wanted to go ever since Yamaguchi mentioned the aquarium at the foot of the Tower, which had sparked this whole conversation to begin with.

"We can do that," Leader said, "but it'll have to wait until after the concert."

"Oh." Tsuyoshi looked slightly deflated.

"You two can go by yourselves." Yamaguchi gestured between the two KinKi boys. "Easier to manage. Your schedules totally match, right?"

The two exchanged looks.

"But it would be, uh, weird..." Kouichi objected.

Several layers of snickers could be heard.

"It's fine, it's fine." Nagase waved, despite not bothering to hide his huge grin. "Nothing strange with going on *outings* with your *group*."

"It's definitely gross if not for filming," Tsuyoshi argued.

Taichi shrugged. "Leader can do the digicam for you if you want."

"Ha-ha, I can tell you his stalking skill is definitely--"

"Right, right, resident ninja, Leader is--"

"THAT'S NOT--"

"I'm not going to do any recording," Leader mediated. "But I think you two should go before things get busier next week."

"If anything, it'll be an interesting story to tell on your future TV appearances," Matsuoka added. "At the rate you're going, you can really use this kind of material."

Kouichi was skeptical. "But we haven't even heard any plan on a debut single."

Nagase patted the boy's back. "He didn't mean the rate in *that* line of product."

"So." Kouichi gestured towards the long queue in front of the elevator. "Shall we get going?"

"One moment." Tsuyoshi took a camera out of his bag.

"I'll take the pictures for you," Kouichi automatically offered.

"Nah, it's okay." Tsuyoshi pointed to the window. "Stand there?"

"I don't want to." Kouichi moved further away from the spot. "*You* can stand there, I'll take the photo."

"Stand there?" Tsuyoshi repeated in a professional tone. "Kouichi-san?"

"I shouldn't have to work now," Kouichi whined.

"Kouichi-san?"

Kouichi gave in with a final complaint, seeing as Tsuyoshi would just keep repeating the request until he did.

"Don't be so stiff, strike a pose."

"This is what I always do."

"This is not work. Look more hyper." Click. "Okay, not bad. Now... hm, turn to your right a bit?"

"You're supposed to take pictures of the scenery!"

Ignoring the comment, Tsuyoshi walked up to him to manually adjust his pose, then took a short step back and snapped the picture. "Good."

Kouichi made use of the short distance to grab the camera from his hands. "Your turn now."

Unabashed, Tsuyoshi stuck his face to the lens.

Kouichi laughed. "There'll be flash!" he warned.

"Stay there," Tsuyoshi instructed, and went to stand beside him. Kouichi let him take over the camera and snap the photograph of the two of them together.

"Okay, all done." Tsuyoshi put away the camera. "Now..."

"Huh?" Kouichi blinked as his partner advanced towards him with a serious face. He wanted to back away, but there were people all around.

"What?" he asked, suppressing the unreasonable fear. This was just Tsuyoshi...

"One last thing before we leave," Tsuyoshi said, his voice low.

...and Tsuyoshi could be scary indeed.

"Stop it," Kouichi laughed nervously. "We're not being secretly filmed, are we?"

"Of course not." Tsuyoshi wasn't swayed. His hands were on Kouichi's collar bones now.

"Then what are you doing?" Kouichi lowered his voice urgently. "There are people here!"

"It's fine, they're not looking this way," Tsuyoshi said convincingly.

"Wait, this, uh--"

A looming shadow of the face he knew so well, a hot puff of breath on the tip of his suddenly very sensitive nose...

...and in the next heartbeat all the intimidating contact was gone. Tsuyoshi straightened; fingers were lifted off Kouichi's shoulders; and a few calm steps restored the distance.

"Huh?" Kouichi blinked again.

"All done," Tsuyoshi said serenely, his expression betraying nothing. He adjusted his bag strap. "Shall we go?"

Without waiting for an answer, he started towards the elevator. Kouichi followed, confused as hell.

As they were standing in line, Kouichi started, "Just now, what..."

Tsuyoshi turned a subtle smile at him before breaking the eye contact yet again. "Proper ending."

Kouichi stared.

"I heard what Nagase said to you last night," Tsuyoshi added, by way of an explanation.

"So, you know, at the end of the date--" ("It's SO not a date!") "--it's time for the kiss."

"I told him he was too loud," Kouichi grunted, in an admirable effort to digress.

"Inconsiderate of him to start chatting in front of our room, don't you think? Just when I was finally going to fall asleep."

A light bulb burst to life inside Kouichi's brain, and he frowned. His blush momentarily forgotten, he turned a questioning look at his partner, then immediately looked away from the amused smile.

"And speaking from personal experience, who-initiates-what will make a big difference in your relationship afterwards, so you wouldn't want to go unprepared, Kou-chan."

That guy should know very well how Tsuyoshi would react to a challenge.

"Not to mention all he said was nonsense," Kouichi settled with saying.

"I know," Tsuyoshi replied cheerfully.

--

"Yo!" Yamaguchi slapped Tsuyoshi's shoulder. "How's the aquarium?"

"You don't have to ask. See how his eyes are gleaming." Taichi laughed.

"Oh...?" Nagase whispered, nudging Kouichi, a distance away from the others.

"You," accused Kouichi.

Nagase smirked. "So he did catch the fish."

"He didn't," Kouichi grumbled. "And can you not compare me to some prey?"

Nagase looked at his best friend and believed him. Kouichi hadn't learned how to bluff-- exactly why they loved to tease him. "So you're not happy because nothing happened after all."

Kouichi glared. "Who says I want anything to--"

They were interrupted as Tsuyoshi maneuvered his way past them in the corridor. "I'm going ahead," he said, gesturing towards the general direction of their room.

"Ah, me too," Kouichi quickly replied, jumping at the opportunity to escape from further teasing.

Nagase put up a protesting expression, not actually minding it given the compensating sight of Tsuyoshi feigning nonchalance while slowing down for Kouichi who was following him like a puppy.

The boys under observation turned the corner, walking silently and avoiding each other's eyes until they reached their dorm room.

Tsuyoshi stopped in front of the door.

"Hm?" Kouichi prompted. "Do you have your key?"

Tsuyoshi scratched the back of his head. "Uh... that thing before we left the Tower... I just thought that since the others were teasing us about it, we should just get it out in the open and laugh it off... but I might have made things more awkward for you. Sorry."

Kouichi paused from searching his own pockets to look at his roommate, and only then realized that he might not be the only one who'd been a little nervous over this private outing.

"It's all right," he replied, sincere. "Today was fun," he quickly added, knowing his partner's insecure tendencies.

Tsuyoshi grinned a little, looking relieved. "Well, just to clear the air before we properly end this--"

Kouichi moved entirely too briskly for him to react, and then he was crowded against the door, Kouichi's rare intense expression filling up his line of vision, a clear trace of the familiar hair scent quickly replaced by the faint mayonnaise in Kouichi's breath, a ghost of a touch-- soft and light but. Definitely. Making. Contact.

Then in a perfect revenge, all contact was withdrawn within a second.

"I too hate to lose, you know," Kouichi said, and held Tsuyoshi's wide-eyed look for a full five seconds before breaking out in laughter.
