Gurren Lagann is overly sexualized and compared to Hentai
But sexually-suggestive and explicit anime like "Gurren Lagann" and "Legend of the Overfiend," is finding an eager audience of adult Americans who are drawn to the post-modern, almost post-human mash-up of playful, blurry morality found in the genre.Way to go MSNBC for your brilliant

I hate articles like this. And the appeal of anime is that it's immoral? I'm pretty sure that's not the case for most fans or congoers.

I don't know why anime has to be seen as a genre anyway. Just like animation itself, it's a medium, not a genre. Yeah there are genres within anime, but I love anything that tells a good story, no matter how it chooses to do it or what country produces it.
Meh, I'm so over crap like that article. Ugh. >>

Agreed about anime being a medium not a genre. When I say I am a fan of anime it is because of certain anime series but I like that series because of the story and characters.
Obviously that doesn't mean I love every single anime series out there or even most because I consider myself an anime fan. I just love what Japan has done with animation. Although my love for animation is not exclusive to Japan.

I love the observation of that apparently there are girls there too. DEAR MSNBC, GIRLS ARE NERDS TOO GET USED TO IT. OH AND THEY LIKE SEX TOO.
But honestly that whole article is par for the course. While I do think things like anime culture, and any fan culture can be interesting from a sociological standpoint that kind of thing is not going to be explored with proper delicacy and intentions.
That whole article is just "HEY LOOK AT ALL THE WEIRDOS".

LOL although I was once told by my friend that anime is a guy thing that some girls like. I know a lot of people are shocked by the amount of girls in the fandom and even more shocked that their is anime aimed at girls and women and female comic artists. I guess stereotypes still rule the day.
