mother's day "I'm not sure if she'll appreciate that."
"Nonsense! Everyone likes happy meals."
"If they're under the age of eight. My mom is fifty-two."
"Flowers are so overrated, love."
"Jaejoong, I'm not sure if she'll like My Little Pony plushies."
Jaejoong stops on his tracks, looking at him with a huff. "You're a plushie yourself, Yunho, and she likes you!"
"I'm her son."
"The point is, she likes you. Then that means she likes plushies."
But I'm not a plushie, Yunho wants to say but decides against it. What's the point? He could never win against Jaejoong.
They both walk hand in hand to Yunho's parents' house. It is a good half an hour walk away from theirs and Yunho's suggestion of taking a cab was ignored. He huffs, hugging the bag of plushies with one arm while holding Jaejoong's hand with his free hand.
"Walking is healthy and good for the heart."
"But Jae--"
"Healthy."
"It's--"
"Healthy."
"...Fine."
Jihye greets them first, kissing them both on the cheek and then clings onto Jaejoong as she calls for their parents. Jaejoong wouldn't let go of his hand, though, so while Jihye drags his boyfriend to the living room, he lets himself be dragged along, tossing the plushies on the couch which earns him a glare from Jaejoong. He chuckles nervously, pecking the other's lips as an apology.
"Eww, you two. Can you not right now, please?" Jihye says, feigning a look of disgust.
"Young lady, be nice." comes Mrs. Jung's reply as she walks down the stairs, gracing the younger people with her presence. Jihye pouts, Jaejoong reaches out to ruffle ruffle her hair. "It's nice to see you both. I've missed you." She hugs Jaejoong, giving him a pat on the back before moving to hug her son. She examines Yunho from head to toe and frowns a little. "Did you get bigger, son?"
"Yes, mom." Jaejoong answers, trying so hard not to laugh at Yunho's horrified expression. "He was binge eating a few days ago! But that's okay, he's lost what he has gained."
"That fast?"
"Well, yeah, he's as fast as a jackhammer--"
Yunho covers his mouth with a hand before he could embarrass them both. He turns Jaejoong around and envelopes him in a tight hug, pushing his head down his neck. "Sorry, he bumped into a pole on our way here and he just-- where's dad?"
He ignores Jihye's smirk and repeats his question. "Your dad bought cake, he'll be here in a while." Mrs. Jung looks at Jaejoong worriedly. "You can let go of him now, he's turning a little blue."
"I'm okay!" Jaejoong beams from Yunho's neck and thinks it's very appropriate to climb on Yunho like a tree. So he does, not at all bothered at the fact that his future in-laws are watching him. "I'm suddenly feeling a little clingy." he says, voice muffled by Yunho's shirt. "You don't mind, don't you?"
Yunho opens his mouth to reply but Jihye beats him to it with a squeal. "Mama I want a boyfriend like Jaejoong oppa!"
The oldest Jung could only shake her head in amusement at her children. She places a soft kiss on Jaejoong's head before heading to the kitchen to tend to her casserole.
"Are you going to continue being a big baby?" Yunho asks softly. He and Jaejoong are both on the couch, cuddling. Jaejoong, of course, already claimed the spot on his lap before he could even ask. His sister tried to sit with them but Mrs. Jung came to the rescue and sent her to the kitchen to help. The boys don't even feel bad for not helping because they're in charge of washing the dishes. It has always been their task during dinners.
"I dunno... I just feel like I have to be super cuddly and clingy today." Jaejoong replies, staring at Yunho's stubble. He tries to pluck it but fails ever so miserably. With a huff, he pinches Yunho's cheek in frustration. The owner of the abused cheek hisses. "Baby, let's play a game!"
"Hmm. What game?"
"Guess this song." Jaejoong sits up straight and proceeds to pound a tune on the latter's tummy with his hands. "Come on, wild guess!" He pounds harder, not noticing the pained expression on Yunho's face.
Like the good boyfriend that he is, he endures the pain, not even bothering to guess what the song is because he's pretty sure it's a song Jaejoong just came up with.
The couple are pretty much like siamese twins the whole night, specially when Yunho's father arrived with some girl. Kwon Boa, she says. And claims she is Yunho's childhood sweetheart.
"How many sweethearts have you had?" Jaejoong asks through gritted teeth, obviously jealous. Though he really shouldn't be because he's practically sitting on Yunho's lap even during the actual dinner (Yunho had promised him to make up for their ruined date).
Mrs. Jung chuckles lightly. "Jaejoong, honey, Boa was only joking. Aren't you, dear?"
Boa shakes her head. "Of course not. Yunho even promised to marry me and gave me a ring. I still have it."
The moment he saw Boa with his dad, he knows he's going to be in trouble. And when Boa opened her mouth, he just accepted the fact that he's going to be in very deep shit. Yunho's hold on Jaejoong's waist tightens every second. While Boa is telling the truth, it doesn't really mean anything. They were ten! Very young and clueless.
But knowing how Jaejoong gets jealous even with the simplest of things... he could only sigh and accept his fate.
"By the way, Yunho, haven't you thought of getting a surgery?"
Jaejoong's jealousy flies out of the window. "Excuse me?"
Boa grins at him. "Liposuction, I mean. You know... he's too fat."
"Excuse me?!"
"Don't raise your voice at me. I was just trying to suggest." Boa frowns.
"Did we ask for you suggestion? Your opinion?" Jaejoong retorts. He has dealt with one too many people who thought they aren't being insulting by suggesting stupid things like this.
"Why are you even overreacting? I was talking to Yunho, not you. Are you his spokesperson?"
"Babe, just let it go." Yunho whispers in his ear, as he rubs his tummy to try to calm him down.
Jaejoong growls. "I am not going to let this go. I don't care if he's your childhood whatever, Yunho. But I'm not going to let her speak to you like that."
Yunho's parents and sister could only watch in awe. They know how protective Jaejoong is of Yunho, but they haven't seen him defend him. It's as if he's the one being insulted.
"I'm doing this for you, too!" Boa says, her voice an octave higher. "Imagine, when Yunho gets his old body back, you'd be proud to be with him. People are going to be jealous of you for snagging a stud muffin. You won't be ashamed of him anymore."
"Who says I'm ashamed of him?! He's my muffin. My fluffy and squishy muffin!" he barks, unconsciously standing up in fury. Yunho pulls him back down his lap, hugging him by the waist. He is very much insulted. He has no idea his friend is capable of saying such things to him.
"Am I that disgusting?" A thought that is supposed to be just for himself is unconsciously spoken out loud. Jaejoong gasps.
"Boa, I think it's time to go home now." Mrs. Jung says sternly. Boa has disappointed her greatly and she's not sure if she wants to see her ever again.
"I'll escort her out." says a teary-eyed Jaejoong, standing up to drag her to the front door. He takes her to the living room and lets go of her arm. "Listen woman, who the fuck do you think you are? Don't you have any respect?" he speaks, tears already strolling down his cheeks freely. As much as he wants to raise his voice at her, he doesn't want to catch anyone's attention. He's dragged her out from the dining room to give the family some time. "You are in Yunho's parents house and said parents are present. Don't you have any decency to, I don't know, keep your thoughts to yourself?"
"I'm his friend."
"Not because you're his friend doesn't mean you can be an asshole to him."
"Excuse me, but I don't know who told you you have the right to call me an asshole."
Jaejoong clenches his fists tightly. If she isn't a girl, he would've hit her already. "Well I don't know who gave you the right to insult Yunho like that."
"Insult him? I did not insult him."
"Don't be stupid. We--" His tears stop. He raises a hand to his stinging cheek. It is such a resounding slap that echoes throughout the Jung household. In a flash, Jaejoong is already in Yunho's arms, the bigger man crying as he showers his face with kisses. The slap was so hard and shocking that he could barely notice what's happening around him. Boa cursing him for calling her stupid and an asshole, Jihye literally pushing her out of the house with Mrs. Jung telling her to never show up again, and Mr. Jung trying to calm his wife and daughter down.
In the midst of the chaos, Yunho carries his stunned lover to his old room. Jaejoong is not moving, he couldn't. He lets Yunho take him in his arms and bury themselves under the covers. Yunho whispers sweet nothings in his ear until the man drifts off to dreamland. Jaejoong is hurt as much as he is and he won't forgive Boa for laying a hand on the love of his life.
Tomorrow, Yunho tells himself. Tomorrow, they'd talk. Not him and Boa. He could only care less about his ex-friend. Him and Jaejoong for only they have the power to comfort each other.
