Days Become Weeks...

Wow, we're already nicely into February. Time is moving right along, ain't it? Someone commented in my journal recently about how time continues to move forward even if you're somewhat uninspired/unmotivated and taking a time-out to assess things. So yeah, that would be me taking that time out. I don't feel like it's quite over yet either. But ( Read more... )

It vaguely annoys me that the "classic" verion of the Haunted Mansion is out of commission for a full five months out of the year (counting setup and takedown time for the Holiday version). I have nothing against "The Nightmare Before Christmas," it just seems extreme to replace the "classic" version for such a long period every single year. Sigh. Three and a half years in LA, and I'm already an old Disneyland-purist grumpus.

I agree with you though, Buck. I wish the ride didn't have to be down for such a long time. In Disney's defense, both versions are done so well - I mean, I wouldn't want to do without either so I'll just suck it up and deal.

Now, we'll see how I feel about the Small World additions though... I'm just barely where I can stomach the changes to pirates (not the additions of movie elements but the subtractions of the "pillaging and raping" from the chase scene).

Glad you're working through life, Brian.

I have had reservations about seeing "Push". I still probably will, but the reviews seem to be pretty consistently C-.

Last night I saw Coraline. I loved it, was impressed with the artwork that went in to it, and was equally horrified that I got the feeling from the trailers that it was a kids movie. It is most definately NOT a kids movie. It's is deliciously dark, creepy, twisted, and had I seen it as a little kid (there were MANY little kids in the audience, in the 5-8 age range), I would have had MANY MANY nightmares.

Anyway, thanks for posting/sharing.

Hugs...

Yeah, I'd skip Push, Eric...

Now see, I think Coraline is totally a good movie for kids. I love that it embraced the creepy. I think kids movies in general these days are far too sanitized. Think about it, my favorite movies as a kid are the ones that creeped me out the most (Alice in Wonderland, the pink elephants from Dumbo, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory). Movies with a sense of danger that made you scared without making you feel unsafe. Those are the ones I go back to as an adult and cherish. And they trump this shit out of fart jokes and burps as punchlines...

You know, you might just be right... I guess I hadn't thought of it that way, and may still be irritated at the people who had little ones behind us in Sweeny Todd.

For the record, I hate fart/burp humor, and maybe the mildly creepy stuff was OK when I was little. I am not sure I liked the whole "other, better mother" thing, but otherwise it wasn't THAT bad. I'm getting old, I guess.

The half naked old ladies KILLED me though. How funny!
