Miles to Go Before I Sleep

This weekend has been a mighty fine one I gotta say. It started with me, hryguyinsd, and bearringsd, driving up with bearxxl in his nifty new ride to my Mom's retirement condo in Laguna Woods. We headed up to be a part of the fab surprise bigsabu and animbear had for redbeardedblond that I will let you read all about in their journals. Long and short, it was Richard's birthday so we came up for dinner ( Read more... )

We had people in our group who enjoyed Death Proof more than Planet Terror, for those reasons. While Terror had a sense of style (the film itself never got out of character), it more relied on their being an action beat every half a page.

Tarantino on the other hand let his be a slow burn...Grindhouse isn't just about shit blowin' up, it's about hot chicks and drinking too! I have a feeling that watching Death Proof with a drinking game in the beginning, matching the girls with beers and buds is really what its designed for, because by the time it rolls around - you're gonna be ready for the last half of DP.

Also the music always makes a good Tarantino film for me. He always has some band that he's like "OH dude check this out, put it on your next mix tape" - this time it was Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, previously its been The 5,6,7,8s, Urge Overkill, The Delfonics.

I see your point on the slow burn - which I'm totally up for if the dialog holds my attention (in this case it did, but just barely). But that's a good point to make.

re: music - hells yes... the soundtracks to pulp and dogs are excellent and there are some great nuggets in Kill B. as well.

I'm super bummed I couldn't make it to the mini GD. Looks like y'all had a fantastic time! I'll definitely be there for GD in October!

Hehe, well speaking as one of the cool kids my tail bone is sore from being jounced around on those big kid rides. We'll see how I hold up this weekend :)

Always a pleasure mister - glad you came along.

It really was a good day. Maybe it was the smaller group of us, or smaller crowds than last October, but I really enjoyed it. I've all but stopped taking pics on these outings because you and John always have so many great shots. I still can't get my video uploaded to You Tube though. Come help me. :-(
